Abrasion Wound

Abrasions are superficial injuries that occur on the skin and visceral linings of the body, disrupting tissue continuity.

The initial care for the wound is Apply an antiseptic lotion, cream, or petroleum jelly. Cover the area with an adhesive bandage.

Post care for the wound is checking the area each day and keeping it clean and dry.

Avulsion Wound

An avulsion is a forcible tearing off of skin or another part of the body, such as an ear or a finger.

The initial care is to use an absorbent clean dressing or any clean cloth that is available to hold pressure on an open avulsion or degloving injury.

Post care for the wound is after the first 24 to 48 hours, you can remove the bandage and gently wash around the wound with clean water 2 times a day

Incision Wound

An incision is a cut that's made in your skin during a surgery or procedure.

Initial care is to remove clothing around the site for easier access, apply pressure directly to the wound with your hands to stem the blood flow, & cover the wound with a sterile dressing, if possible, and continue to apply direct pressure

Post care is to clean and rinse your incision site with a gentle (unscented) soap and water.

Laceration Wound

A laceration is a wound that is produced by the tearing of soft body tissue.

Initial care is to stop the bleeding, Clean the wound, put on an antibiotic or petroleum jelly cover the wound, change the covering.

Post care you would keep the area clean and dry for the first 24 to 48 hours after stitches have been placed. Then, you can start to gently wash around the site 1 to 2 times daily.

Puncture Wound

A puncture wound is a cut that is made when a sharp object, like a nail, goes through the skin and into the tissue underneath.

Initial care is to Stop the bleeding, clean the wound, apply an ointment, cover the wound, change the dressing, & watch for signs of infection.

Post care is to after the first 24 to 48 hours, wash the wound with clean water 2 times a day, then cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a non-stick bandage

Wound Care

A thorough cleansing of the wound with soap and safe water reduces the potential for infection. Apply a bandage to the wound. Keeping the wound dry and protected will reduce the chance of infection and prevent transmission of infection to others.

You can recognize an infected wound if:

-Pus

-Red area

-More swelling

-Increased scab
