Janice L. I My gap on neuroanatomy for dementia diagnoses are both a knowledge gap and a skills gap. Known neuroanatomy is a knowledge gap, and then the skills gap is the ability to apply neuroanatomy to the clinical symptoms of dementia to know which area of the brain are affected and what the most likely diagnoses are.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the educational gap is both knowledge and skills-based. Many team members lack the proper knowledge to manage complicated cases of pain. Additionally, knowing guidelines and information is not enough to be competent to apply them; hence, there is a skill gap too.

A gap that exists includes faculty understanding on how feedback should and can be given in an Entrustable Professional Activity (EPA) to improve the utility of an EPA for a trainee. Most faculty are not provided adequate training to do this.

In my situation, external/environmental is the most significant gap. There is no environment for them to learn and apply guidelines when they are taking rotations in hospital specialties. After they go to community health centers, they do not have training on guidelines at all. When they are trying to apply the guidelines they learned at the hospital, they find some barriers such as lacking medicine and conflict with old doctors. The skill and knowledge gaps are existing as well.
