Discuss both supply and demand and how each one affects the other. Give students scenarios to act out in small groups and ask them to predict how differing factors will affect sales.

Week 2 Day 2

Students watch a video about supply and demand and how it is involved in their everyday lives. For example, the food supplied in restaurants, stores, etc.

Week 2 Day 3

Students will be given a ‘Five-Day-Business Plan’ worksheet. For each day the students will estimate the amount of demand and decide how many supplies they will need.

Week 2 Day 4

Students will finalize plans for the lemonade stand, including what they want to sell (what kind of lemonade, and do they want other items as well). They will choose a day to hold their lemonade stand based on school factors that could influence demand. Some examples could be: temperature, weather, sporting events, lunch meal, etc. Create finalized list of ingredients/supplies needed, including measurements.

Lemonade Stand Simulation- Week 2 Day 5

Procedure: Students will be given 5 day supply and demand business plan worksheet with a weather forecast for a five day period. Students must estimate the amount of supplies they will need for each day for their lemonade stands. Students will estimate the amount of demand that they will have for each day. (Ex. Monday the forecast is 55 degrees and raining. The demand for lemonade will be low. Tuesday the forecast is 85 degrees and sunny, the demand will be high. Students will share the amount of supplies and their estimated demand with a partner and revise their business plan. For final activity, the class will set up a lemonade stand during recess. Students will estimate the demand based on weather and the amount of students at recess. Students will complete an individual reflection based on how they think the class lemonade stand went and how supply and demand relate to each other.
