Work-Based experiences give students an opportunity to do work in an area that they are passionate about as opposed to taking courses they simply don't need or want. This is the problem with our current graduation requirements. We personalize learning but everybody must fit into the same box for a high school diploma.

Very much like what is done in the middle school in Harrisburg, SD. Our middle school is looking at setting up a schedule for next year that would follow this model. Strength- learners set their own schedules and sign up for what they need; educators are able to offer what their learners need. Starts to fall apart when learners get too far ahead or too far behind. Saturday school can be a place for those who are falling too far behind. Can offer enrichment or level 4 project or real world experiences for those who are too far head to have offerings that will fit their needs. Weaknesses- starts to fall apart when there are too many options for learners at a small school like ours. It is hard to find how this would work in high school with so many options and only one teacher that has all high school math courses, etc. I'm excited to see this fit into our middle school.

With another bond failing here, this is an option we may have to consider. I was looking at the Rio Rancho school model where students attend the brick and mortar school 3 grade levels at a time during a week. The teachers seem to maintain the same 25 students similar to a traditional class, however the students aren't brick and mortar all the time (if I'm understanding this correctly). Nationwide there is an issue with education infrastructure, this may be the future of how classrooms work if we can't fund brick and mortar locations.

This is something already occurring in classrooms at NC, to some extent. A strength is that it doesn't need a specific schedule to function because the learners stay in that classroom and are just working on individualized playlists, in an LMS such as Empower. One weakness is that there is a lot of work on the front end building customized playlist for learners with different gaps in knowledge. I've found it is easiest to have all activities pre-listed on the playlist and then have learners bypass activities if they have already proved proficiency. It can also be an option to have a lot of voice and choice in the playlist to have learners pick what assignments they first believe will fit their learning needs, depending on where they are at and how they learn best.

Could be student directed and collaborative but most observed implementations have not leveraged that. Activities or stations often build for the middle of the road.

Lab Rotation

Blocked time of the day for blended learning… most of examples was a program. Benefits was to staff the blended room with paraprofessionals. Potentially in larger groups.

Flipped Model

Students access lecture at home or out of class. Different from homework cause online. Lot of examples in Math.

Weakness… if students don’t watch the videos you can’t continue

Flex - combination of some of the other models. Each district has a little different configuration for implementation. Possibly a little more student directed. More choice or flexibility for staff.

Individual Rotation…

Large groups staffed with Aides with core delivery online.

Encouraged differentiation. Flexible paths.

Difficult to start and procedures rely on student self-monitoring.

A la Carte

Have some school building classes and some are online.

Sounds possibly like Edgenuity. But could also be like BPS moving to online such as English 12

Good prepare for college… online course experience and self-motivation/
