Task 1: Planning and Academic Language
During this task we will learn as much as possible about our perspective school and the students in our class. With this information we will fill out a collection of templates and lesson plans to submit. We will also go through a series of Academic Language guides that are provided by the program.
Task 2: Instruction and Video
This is where we are going to film video clips in the classroom and add instructional commentary. The guidelines to the videos will be provided by the program. (P.S. don't forget the student consent forms!)
Task 3: Assessment
In this task we will select an assessment that we will use to evaluate our students' developing knowledge and skills.

Co-Teaching Model

One of the ways to maneuver through the edTPA is to use the co-teaching model. By using this model you would essentially share teaching duties between yourself as the student teacher, and the cooperating classroom teacher. You are still solely responsible for the planning and assessing portions, but would share responsibilities of the instruction periods. There are a variety of ways to use this model, but as long as both teachers are engaging at the same time you would be considered co-teachers.

Academic language is a crucial part of task 1 during the edTPA! Academic language differs from everyday language in that it is more complex. UNCW provides specific language guides for multiple levels of education and varying subjects. Essentially academic language is the words and phrases we will use in the classroom.

Prior to the beginning of task #2 your edTPA handbook will be your best friend! Your program will provide directions and helpful tips to prepare you for filming. Do not skim past your handbook and visit all links and videos provided to help you with filming. It is best to be proactive before this step and become familiar with all filming and audio equipment before using it for the first time. You are the star of this show, so make sure the camera can see you, your materials and all consenting students.
