When it first started, no one was doing anything to stop it because they were making more supplies. Then, the National Child Labor Committee was put in place to stop child labor. The committee was patient on stopping the labor, and reached out to the community to prevent it. The National Child Labor Committee passed child labor laws to help the children that were affected from this. These laws limited the time kids could work because they still had to go to school, made the school year longer, and gave the kids transportation. It also stated that there should be no full-time working kids.

About 60% of child labor happens in agriculture, fishing, hunting, and some children have been found harvesting multiple different things.

Not only were their hours not good, their work conditions were horrible. Many kids died because of accidents within the work forces. The work conditions were bad until 1833, when things started to improve.

Usually, the kids that were not old enough to work with and around the machines, they would have to work as assistants for the textile workers. The people the kids would work for would beat them, verbally and physically abuse them, and they wouldn’t care about their safety. If they were late to work, they would put heavy weights around the kids’ necks and make them walk up and down the aisles of the factory. All of the other kids would see them and their punishment and know not to be late to work. That could last up to an hour giving the kids neck and back problems. The parents of the kids would sometimes drag the kids out of bed naked and make them take their clothes to their place of work and make them put them on there so they weren't not late.

One way that has helped child labor end was that the unions had strong protection against child labor. If the parents were able to improve the conditions through the different unions, there would be more of a chance that their kid didn’t have to work in the difficult conditions. Because the unions were against child labor and protecting it, it strengthened the unions as a whole. They were trying to stop kids from working, and be more involved in school. The Unions came together with communities and families to prevent it from happening.

One of the most dangerous things they are asked to do has to do with agriculture. The kids are also having a physiological issues because of working so much. Between having to work long hours and performing dangerous tasks, there’s not a lot of time to be independent and to do things that you want to do. This has an impact on us, because child labor got abolished and that makes us, not have to be apart of it. We could be apart of child labor today if nothing changed a while ago.

On tobacco farms, kids would work in the heat for extremely long hours, while exposed to nicotine and other toxic gases. In some countries, they would send the kids to work underground in the pits that usually collapse. They are also sometimes told to go work with the Mercury that they use to process gold. They are risking brain damage and other serious health conditions. Any job that needed done, a kid was put to work. Some worked on the streets shining shoes, and most of the others were in factories.
