The market revolution was a movement in the 19th century that created an expanded marketplace and made the economy more connected. This was caused by events such as the Industrial and Transportation revolutions. This affected the move Westward by Americans because the regions of the country were more interconnected and therefore living in the West could be financially beneficial because of trade with the North. This also affected immigrants such as the Germans, who mostly moved out to the West as well.

Entrepreneurs in the 19th century created many valuable inventions such as the sewing machine or the steamboat. These inventions fueled the Industrial revolution and made factories more prevalent. The use of factories helped with faster and more efficient production. This also set certain relationships between producers and consumers.

These inventions were crucial for movements such as the Industrial revolution. For example, textile machinery improved the efficiency of production in textile factories. And interchangeable parts allowed people to buy one new part if something was broken instead of replacing it. All of these innovations made factories a more common way of producing goods instead of individuals in their homes, like the cottage industry. This made the economy more interdependent and connected individuals of all classes.

Legislative and judicial systems supported internal improvements such as canals, roads, and railroads. One example of this is with the Erie Canal. Construction on the Erie Canal began in 1817 and it was completed in 1825. Another name for the canal was "Clinton's Big Ditch" or "the Governor's Gutter" because its construction was lead by the Governor DeWitt Clinton.

The transportation networks did physically connect all the regions of the country, not just the North and Midwest. But the reason why the South was left out was because these railroads, canals, and roads were mostly being used for trade in between the North and Midwest and therefore these networks mostly benefited them and the South was more segregated because of the economics of the networks.

The market revolution had significant effects on society. One example of this was its effect on women. Because of the market revolution and factories women were able to find jobs, even if they were very low paying ones. This changed the notion that women should only take care of the children and clean the house. Also the US society changed due to the market revolution. For example factories increased the amount of immigrants in cities looking for jobs. This then made more and more Americans frustrated because immigrants kept taking their jobs because they were cheap labor.

The growth of manufacturing was a huge catalyst for change. Before the market, industrial and transportation revolution the economy was mostly based on self independence, and many families would grow their own crops. But because of the growth in this time frame the economy became more interdependent and connected. This introduced new wealth into the community and raised the living standards of most people. But unfortunately it also widened the gap between the rich and the poor.
