A winning formula cannot be forever. That's where the innovation comes in new ways to train and be better than the last time. To go forward, everyone has a part to play to ensure that Singapore will continue to succeed and everyone of us will succeed too. 
I think the CCE syllabus has been relaying this message over the years and we have taught many NE/ JIT packages to our students in fostering the Singapore spirit. I also think that teachable moments have greater impact on our students than if we were to teach explicitly. Teachers personal stories will have greater impact too. 
I wonder; do we need another approach (other than the normal LP for CCE lessons) to foster a Singapore spirit in our young?

I wonder if our society is ready for this? Can our kids find joy in learning and at the same time be daring enough to try and take steps forward without the fear of failing? Can parents stop looking at grades /putting pressure on their kids to perform well for exams? Can our society accept success in other areas besides academics? 
More wonder... How will teachers focus more on the joy of learning but also prepare our students for summative assessment? (because honestly, exams takes the joy out from the learning)

To me it is calculated dare and not just jump into the band wagon. 

It is analysing the situation, weighing the risk and costs before we embark on the journey. Once we are on the journey, it is going all out, weathering the storm with the direction in mind. 

The question is never about the ambition. It is about the belief that our students, and sometimes us as teachers have. 
Whether we have the resilience, the fighting spirit and the will to persevere; whether our students have the skillsets to meander the journey; whether we have the belief in ourselves and our peers.

Teacher perception of engagement differs from students. As Minister put it, we have to rethink our thoughts and revamp our routines. 
Teaching and Learning must go on. 
However, adapting to the needs of our students must happen to. 
It should not be my way or the highway - that would kill the joy of learning.

With that, it could help attendance, engagement and even discipline issues.

Community starts with small groups, class, level and school. What is this spirit and is it visible? 

We do have the spirit. We do have the Tanglin Spirit. It is recognising it, identifying it and being proud of it. 

It starts with having pride in ourselves, class, school. It starts with small things like school uniform and school rules. 

In the Army, it was never, lets be proud of our country. It is lets be proud of our battalion, our unit. Lets make it the best unit out there. In the process, every battalion will strive towards that and there will be the pride towards unit, company and nation.

If we can develop this pride (staff and students), we will naturally develop the Singapore Spirit.
