The lies the girls have been telling has the town of Salem under much distress. However the girls are not the only ones who have been deceitful, John Proctor is deceitful for cheating on his wife and then hiding it from the rest of the town. The song Everybody Lies by Jason Walker connects to the lies that are in Salem. Abigail is motivated by jealousy toward Elizabeth Procter. Abigail wanted Elizabeth to die so that she could marry John Proctor. In the Crucible when Reverend Hale discovers the girls dancing in the woods he chose to stay quite because he was scared of messing up his reputation and he wanted to keep his name clean. Once Elizabeth forgives John and admits her own faults it allows John to be able to forgive himself and also gives him the courage to commit to not signing the false papers saying that he is guilty to witchcraft.
