1. Out of the three issues we have explored this week, which has had the biggest NEGATIVE impact on the African American community in Baltimore? Why do you think this?

2. Would D. Watkins agree or disagree with you? Pull one piece of text evidence to support your answer.

I believe that unhealthy food has had the greatest negative impact on the African-American community in Baltimore. I understand that there are other issues that exist for this community, but if you eat unhealthfully, it will shorten your life and limit your future prospects.

D. Watkins describes this issue perfectly in his vignette, "What's to Eat?". He mentions, "We are marching and protesting against police brutality, but biscuits and gravy and macaroni and cheese are probably killing us at a more alarming rate." (99) Even if we figure out the solutions to police brutality and negative influences of technology, we still are bound to a life of illness because of what we eat and where we live.

I believe that unhealthy food has the most greatest negative impact In this African American Society In Baltimore. I think this because all us people do is eat junk food and fast food because it's very cheap and with that being cheap it can shorten people lives and mess up future prospects , Because it will attract many people because of the cost of it and just how it looks (It Attracts many people) but Actually It's made with many things that you would've think of and it's not very good (it's going to catch up with you) maybe not right away.

I think In the book The Beast Side -D Watkins It has a very interesting quote relating to why I think It has the greatest impact on us.. Quote:"Loads of sugar and some yellow dye #5 mixed with a bunch of other pronounceable chemicals all conjoined and neatly packaged in eye catching wrapping paper " page (95) Another quote:" Poor eating habits have been plaguing the black community since the days of slavery , when captured African Americans were given scraps , filth and unpronounceable parts of the pig for breakfast , lunch , and dinner." I believe all of these quotes are relating to why I think this affects our community.

I believe that community violence and police brutality is the highest impact on African American life. Community can impact us in many ways. Like people without their parent because their parents made a bad decision in the community now the kid has a big chance of being around negative people and doing negative thing. When people grow around negative they will become negative. How can u be positive when its so easy to do and get into things that can get you in bad problems."It's easier to get a gun than a job in east Baltimore." (pg32) In the community everybody killing everybody people robbing highschool kids killing people for no reason. This force everybody to keep a gun on them an force them to protect their self an kill somebody else and police is killing them. "African American males are being hunted from multiple directions. We killing each other, We killed by sociopaths like...an then the cop." (pg33) The police is killing people so the kids growing up saying F... the police an throw stuff at their car cause they killed a brother or etc. Now they think they is not safe with police so they will grow up thinking they can handle everything by their self by doing something negative.

Watkins says ''Red and blue flashing lights were knocking against my rear-view mirror and blinking on my cell as I scrolled through text, Red, white, and blue are supposed to mean freedom right? Not if you are black- and never in this situation.''
And that shows that in Baltimore city for African American community, that if you get pulled over you could be risking your life, but not might be the same if you are white. And 1,000 of people die from police officers everyday when it was just a normal traffic stop rutine could turn into planning your funeral. That's why i think community violence and police brutality is the biggest impact on African American community.

Watkins vignette it says," If we all know that these kids are going to be in the same place at the same time with their eyes locked on the same social networks, why can't we find a way to reach them there and educate them?" Watkins says " im a student and a teacher in one of the most dangerous and illiterate places in the United States, meaning that i pose a threat to nothing but my liver. My tax dollars from the small amount of money i receive pay them to fuck me over." He also says "Now our neighborhoods are full of racist cops who just harass, plunder and kill." These two quotes clearly describe the police brutality and the violence happening in the community.
violence and police brutality is whats killing us the most rather that social media and eating unhealthy foods.

I believe that police should stop all this brutality to people in the U.S and that they should be punished for what they did, I feels as though police do this to people mainly blacks because they think that they're doing something good for the environment thinking that they are going to get badges o rewards for killing them, and also that police would just kill a black person for no reason, so say if a black person going into their house at night and a cop around and that person lives in a good neighborhood and a police officer could just think that their breaking into that house just because their black and arrest them or shoot them. or when a cop pull a black person over and start to get aggressive with them then beat them badly or kill them. " He was that twenty-four-year-old kid from north Carolina who took ten shots because he needed help from a cop." " A racist cop quickly arrived on the scene and helped himself to a young black target. He probably salivated at the notion of killing a killing black kid, probably dreaming about the awards medals, and Zimmerman love he'd receive as he aimed and squeezed."
