I used to think...

very rarely about digital capabilities of mission. I loved the stories of people leaving mp3 players on the beach in the restrictive Maldives or wherever, with a Bible or Gospel audio preloaded, and just waiting someone to pick them up and listen. That was probably 20+ years ago - now the ability to send files so easily renders that sort of story ancient!

I now think...

the connection potential is extraordinary. The innovation of people wanting to reach other people, and finding ways to do so digitally, is incredible.

I wonder...

as Chris mentioned, and as we've repeatedly said in class, whether the question of "can we?" has dwarfed any consideration of "should we?" And I guess any number of people will find different landing points on that. "If we can connect with someone, obviously we should!" might be a reasonable position to hold. If initial digital connection opens that door to embodied, physical connection in person, in the real world, in church, etc., then why not?

I'd echo the concerns around finance, shortcuts, and ease. None of those are Gospel-attitudes, let alone guiding principles.
