During these witch trials, people like in the picture were accused and put in court because people back then believed that there were actual witches. Around the end of the 1600s, more than two hundred people men and women were accused of being a witch. Most of these people were called out, by people that didn’t like them or from the girls that believed the person to be a witch.

The way of the education was caused by a guy named Calvin and one of his beliefs were total depravity, which means we were all sinners because it was passed down from when Adam and Eve ate the fruit they weren’t supposed to. Then the second belief was predestination, bassically that there were two parties, the “elect” and the “damned.” Meaning one of them would go to heaven no matter what and the other would go to hell no matter what. The third belief was limited atonement, meaning that when Jesus died on the cross, he died only for the elect. The fourth belief is grace, which is an indescribable feeling that only the elect can feel from the the Holy Spirit.

When the American land was founded, our founding fathers wanted the land to be a utopia where God would be found in scripture and strong work ethic. The puritans wanted to create a “theocracy,” where the government blends with the church and the state. The education was established in order to read the word of God. The schools believed in Calvinism which was a way of thinking for the Puritans. This way of thinking included, total depravity, predestination, and limited atonement.

The puritans were very religious so they definitely believe that there was a God, but that also meant that they believed in the devil was too. They also believed that the devil recruited people for witchcraft. And since they were new to the land and didn’t have it easy, they blamed all their troubles on the devil and their witches and wizards.
