Next year I will be taking a gap year. If the covid situation has been resolved than I am hoping to travel the world and experience new cultures and countries in person through a homestay program. I also hope to learn a little of the language while I am there.
The main area that I want to stay at is Malaysia, because I have family there and my grandma was born there, so it makes up a small part of my identity. I also want to learn the language as well to pass it down, as it wasn't taught to my parents or aunties and uncles.

This summer I will be taking an exploratory course at Oxford university in England. This summer, I want to work on my french and spanish. Languages mean a lot to me and I want to someday, be fluent on those two languages and be able to travel to countries that speak them and understand. This will help me with my global citizen skills because in the world, there is no one language spoke, but hundreds f thousands. Speaking three languages is a useful skill and I would be able to communicate with others who are different me easier. I the future, I would like to study in Europe, maybe Switzerland or Sweden and learn about the country and the culture. I also want to learn more about the world and different countries so that I can develop a better understand about them. I want to make a positive impact on people's lives. I want to go into the healthcare field when I am older and have always had a passion for it. I aspire to make people smile, but also to provide a sense of reassurance and safety. There is definitely a lot of racism in the healthcare industry and I want to help reduce that. There are so many stories of how people feel unsafe and share acts of discrimination they've experienced. As a person of color I want to add more diversity to the healthcare field and change this. I want to do a speech at my local library on this issue and open up a conversation, both for people of color and white people, about race. In the future when I'm in college, I'd like to be my first apprentice. Then after I finished my bachelor studies, I wanted to start pioneering a business that wanted to build my own company. I wanted to keep developing them constantly, and by continuing my studies overseas in addition to introducing my own products there. As a child, I've always thought that there is something that I wanted but I couldn't figure out what it was. Growing up, I've started to contemplate on things and I learned that I felt like I needed to learn more and wanted to explore everything. I want to become fluent in the languages I'm learning. Learning languages is difficult, but when the time comes where I will speak, read and write fluently in a language that was so mysterious to me before, I will have met so many new people, experienced a whole new culture and achieved something that will stay with me forever.

Ever since I was small, I always was interested on different languages, and even nowadays, I still am. At the moment I'm learning 5-6 languages, and working my way to fluently understanding them. As a growing teenager, I am learning more about the world and life. In other words, I am maturing into a young woman with many ideas, goals, and plans in mind. So far, I have two major goals that I am currently focusing on. The first one is to study abroad and traveling to foreign countries. Since very little, I have always enjoyed watching documentaries and YouTube travel vlogs of people experiencing a new area that is nothing of what they are used to. I have always had an open mind and experiencing new things and adventure gives me a great dose of adrenaline and excitement. I believe stepping out of my comfort zone will develop my knowledge to a much more diverse point of view that not only I can hold, but also share with others.
Furthermore, my second great goal would be finding a job I am passionate about. I believe in order to have self improvement, a person needs to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses. As I continue my education, I plan to participate in clubs and classes with different interests and tasks. I want to take advantage of the opportunities I have in front of me by testing new things to find what I really have a desire for.
Both of these qualify as long-term goals that I intend to take action in right now, to build up my way towards them.

Hey :) so I've always dreamt of studying abroad, most likely later in college because I've always loved traveling and just the atmosphere of being somewhere abroad is something I am really interested in. Hello! I’ve always loved travelling and getting to know different cultures, exploring elements such as gastronomy, architecture, language, lifestyle, among others! So one of my take action ideas is to, when it is viable, travel to countries that have cultures that really differentiate from my own, such as Japan or Vietnam. Facing a global crisis right now made me realize how important it is to help the people, take stand with their rights and have basic necessities accessible to everyone.

I've always wanted to travel abroad and get to know many people. I'm also interested in other cultures, especially music and plays. So one of my take action ideas is to study languages such as English and Chinese, and, when it becomes possible, go to America or the U.K. I look forward to seeing plays and their lifestyle! In addition, I will study English literature at university, so I want to acquire various things and tell many people how interesting cultures are in the future!
Another idea is to participate in a volunteer group. I don't know about many countries, their present situation and their lifestyle. I only have the knowledge I learned at school. So I actually want to see them.

My bold take action is to volunteer for PAWS to help relocate and rehabilitate abandoned or stray animals—however, it's hard for me to do so since I live in a different area and they only have one branch in my country. This organization is a worldwide group that supports refugees from all over the world. I want to work abroad and help these refugees. Hi, I’m Aaya from Japan. Through this program, I met people my age with different backgrounds, and I learned that there are so many people different from me. I'd like to communicate with a lot of people like this time because I learned more differences are in this world. I would like to do this approach with my own friends first, with the goal of improving my own capacity for empathy in order to know more. There are still some things I don't know about my friends, and I have learned that culture is not the only thing that makes a difference, so I would like to listen to others before expressing my own opinion. In particular, this program included an assignment to ask people questions, which taught me that there are as many ways of thinking as there are people, and I would like to make use of that.

Hello, I'm Mariel Emmanuelle P. Marchan and I live in the Philippines. Ever since I applied for Asia Kakehashi Project and learned about the other potential scholarships abroad, I've started dreaming to study my pre-med course in any foreign country. I personally admire the idea of exploring in the medical field while being an international/exchange student abroad. I also want to earn my medical degree and pass the board exams abroad; that's why I decided to participate in programs that enhance and develop my global competence skills, effectively. Aside from this, I've also been learning Nihongo as being fluent in a language that is different from my native and secondary language is one of my goals in life. I want to exchange ideas and opinions with other people who come from a much diverse cultural background from mine, and build a firm connection with them. These certain goals of mine are the main reason why I've decided to be a Youth Ambassador. I wish to make the world more flexible, peaceful and accessible for everyone. This one-month program really helped me in broadening my perspective and knowledge of the world, and use it to get to understand things that aren't similar to my own. Hello everyone! I am Aliyah S. Islam from the Philippines. Ever since I joined this program, it is one of my goals to study abroad. I am still not certain about which country I will go to, but I want to take a medical-related course. In spite of that, this program gave me more reasons to be an exchange student, and that is to be an active global citizen at the same time. I am slowly building my global competence skills and confidence to stand up and act as a young changemaker. It made me believe that I do not have to be excellent, I just have to find my purpose in the world. I am trying to look for youth programs and organizations advocating social or global change. Also, I have been learning Nihongo and planning to try Arabic and Spanish.

Discrimination is a big part of my life and this program touched my inner child, telling me that I can reform a better place for all of us. I am beyond thankful for giving me the opportunity to see things from different perspectives and be more aware of myself. I was also able to make friends with people from different countries who I can share my ideas and feelings on a particular topic or issue with. I am also grateful to my instructors, Mr. Tharusha, Mr. Ajay, and Ms. Manshi, for making our room more comfortable and suitable for learning.

It is sad that this is the end of the program, but it is not the end of our own journeys. I will surely utilize and apply the things I have learned in this program in everything I will face. I hope to see you all again in the future. Mabuhay!
