Which system is better, the Roman Republic or Athenian Democracy?

While I do believe that the Roman Republic does have it's flaws, I believe that it works better. Athenian democracy was basically mob rule which could lead to very bad choices and decisions if majority is uninformed of the situation. Rome was also able to last longer than Athens.

Would an Athenian Direct Democracy model work in the United States? Why or why not?

I believe that an Athenian direct democracy would work in the U.S., but it wouldn't work well. You would have mob rule, which is why the founding fathers first created the electoral college. I will use the point again of an uninformed or misinformed mass of people making decisions that could be life or death. There are also over 300 million people in the U.S. and no one would ever agree and there would always be people apposing
