5 Love Languages
1. My primary love language is quality time, and I think it is accurate because I am the type of person who values moments, and I believe that the relationship gets stronger when you have intimacy and connection.
2. I have a friend that I met from my previous work and we have been friends for 15 years. She is more inclined in giving gifts than spending time-- she will not attend birthday parties but she will make sure she has the most extravagant gift and the only time we see her is when someone in our circle is going through unfortunate events. Even though we have a different love language I can say our friendship is strong because as our book states, "Social Interaction is a complex negotiation that builds reality. Most everyday situations involve at least some agreement about what's going on."(Macionis, p.105), which means that even if my friend and i are different, we accept that reality and appreciate our differences.
3. The 5 love languages are symbolic interaction because they were composed of experiences that were given meaning and perceived as symbols or an expression of love. These love languages are also a significant factor in our social construction of reality-- "the process by which people creatively shape reality through social interaction. This idea is the foundation of the symbolic-interaction approach, described in Chapter 1." (Macionis, p.105). The symbols include receiving gifts, physical touch, quality time, service acts, and words of affirmation. These symbols affect the interactions because these symbols help you observe how your surroundings are displaying their love for you.
