I hoped to move beyond just noticing whether students are "paying attention" to really understanding how they are learning and what invisible barriers might be affecting them. My goal was also to learn how to give non-evaluative, constructive feedback to my peers based on real classroom evidence.

My SCOR Action Plan (Sample format)

During the course, I created a simple yet structured action plan:

1. Identify one observation goal per week (e.g., tracking questioning techniques or student wait time).

2. Use the SCOR note-taking template during live or recorded classes.

3. Conduct one peer observation and feedback session every 10 days.

I also decided to experiment with sketch-noting some lessons to capture flow and participation patterns visually.

One of the most transformative learnings I implemented was watching without judgment. Earlier, I would mentally rate teaching strategies. Now, I ask: “What’s the evidence of student learning happening here?”

In my classroom, I used SCOR to redesign my seating layout based on participation data. I noticed students in the back participated less, so I rotated roles and restructured seating. I also used SCOR when mentoring a peer—offering feedback using observable patterns, not assumptions.

This has made both my teaching and collaboration much more intentional and supportive.

The SCOR program has been a deeply reflective experience. I loved the balance between theory and field application. The observation templates and practice opportunities were particularly valuable.

My suggestion would be to include mock observation videos early in the program to help participants develop a shared lens.

I also wish we had more peer feedback sessions—perhaps in triads—so we could experience a variety of observation styles.

The primary aim was to learn how to design and implement effective observation strategies that move beyond mere compliance and lead to meaningful feedback, actionable insights, and tangible improvements in teaching and learning processes.

Through this training, I sought to understand classroom dynamics with clarity, identify areas of strength, and uncover opportunities for enhancement. A significant outcome of the programme was the capacity to analyze cumulative observation data to discern broader institutional patterns, professional development needs, and areas warranting policy attention. Additionally, it imparted the discernment required to periodically review and refine observation tools, criteria, and processes — ensuring that they remain relevant, responsive, and aligned with both educator feedback and evolving educational priorities. In essence, the SCOR training has profoundly shaped my approach to instructional leadership, embedding within it the principles of empathy, evidence-based practice, and a steadfast commitment to continuous improvement.
