I don't have any Mesoamerican roots or origins, however I have travelled a bit through Mexico so I have been able to learn some things. It is in the Yucatan and Quintana Roo that I have been able to observe the most about this Mesoamerican culture, Chichen Itza, Mayapan and the archaeological area of Tulum. I learned that Mesoamerica was much more than just Mexico, it extended to Costa Rica, I also learned that it was not only the Aztecs but also the Mayans and Tarasques.

My Mesoamerican roots and connections consist or my native language, Spanish, as well as some of the typical agricultural crops and foods that i currently eat, such as chocolate and tomatoes. I have learned about the rituals they practiced back in the days and the great architectonic monuments that they created out of endless hard work from people. The Mesoamerican culture left behind some of their greatest carvings and monuments for us to analyze, learn and culturalize ourselves. I commit to involve myself more in the learning, understanding and spread of knowledge of my Mesoamerican roots and recognize their achievements.

Since the beginning of the course to right now, my definition or description of my own identity has changed a bit. I think i can now see some of the habits i have or traditions i have as a descent of what Mesoamerican cultures used to practice. I can still say i am a Mexican-american who speaks both of my native languages. I am also a college student, an athlete, a sister, a daughter and a friend who in a society contributes by being supportive, kind, loving, successful, respectful and responsible. I feel proud of who i am and i thank this course for that.

What I learned was the enormous amount of history developed within Mesoamerica and all of the craftsmanship and traditions that is still practiced since ancient times.

After all the work done through the course, I consider myself an even more proud Mexican of what i was before. I would say I formed a better and more solid identity of who I am and of where I am from, I got to understand more about my family as well as my country. After this class I would say Im more aware of my surroundings, my history and my way of seeing life. All of this thanks to the activities and projects that were made in class

- As the main thing I would suggest to talk and ask about everything inside our family, there is a lot of history that is passed through generations and even if our parents or grandparents didn't live it, they know a lot about how everything has evolved.
- Reading and researching through internet is also a great way of approaching Mesoamerica, there is a lot of sites and pages that talk about it and even show ancient documents that have original. information or pictures.

My identity has evolved over the years through my travels, my experiences and the people I have met. As far as my heritage is concerned, it hasn't really changed my identity since evidence 1, I know my heritage, it's ingrained in me and it's already part of my identity. As for the new Pueblos Magicos it has supported the evolution of part of my identity. I have learned over the years that travel is not about going to a city as a tourist, travel is about going to the heart of the country to meet the people and really understand the country. The pueblos Magicos are an ideal way to discover little known places with local activities managed by locals.

For new students who wish to discover the Mesoamerican culture there are several ways to do so. First of all come to the course of Mrs Rosa Elena Calvo Martínez at the TEC. Then you have to inform yourself on the internet and books, you can find almost everything there. Finally, for me the best way to discover this culture is to travel through the different cultural sites.

I would suggest new students to really get involved in the activities since they can provide you with amazing information from our past that you never thought you wanted to know. I encourage them to learn from their own family relatives since they are the ones who can provide us with the richest anecdotes and learnings. I would also suggest them to watch videos and read from books and sites where they can find lots of interesting information to make connections from the past to the present. This way i can assure them they will have much greater experience for when they end the course.
