Beginning around the end of the eighteenth century, racism was taken place and many African Americans were told by authorities they were only allowed to drink water from certain spots or sit at the back of certain buses. In this photo, we see a black man drinking water from the labeled pot, which is most likely not as fresh as the ones fro the white people. This is discrimination due to the colour of his skin.

I choose to evaluate the Super Bowl Snickers commercial with Betty white in 2010

Define Problem:

This commercial promotes snickers which is a chocolate bar, and their slogan is “you’re not you when you’re hungry”. The problem is because the man is hungry, so he is not playing like himself and he is told he is playing like Betty white who is an old lady.

Gather Information:

In the commercial the man is compared to Betty White who is 88 years old when it was aired. He is then given a Snicker by one of his friends because according to Snickers they the bars are rejuvenating. This is an issue because it influences the audience, even though it is not good for your health and does not in fact actually rejuvenate someone.

Evaluate Evidence:

For athletes wanting to perform at their best ability, they are usually put on a strict diet. Chocolate in general has been scientifically proven to be unhealthy, sugar is shown to give a fast rush though can crash hard and can cause athletes to preform unwell.

Recognize Assumptions, Emotions, Biases:

An emotional connection comes to play through this commercial. Not only is Betty White in the commercial to attract viewers since she is a celebrity, she is representing someone playing like an old grandma, viewers realize they do not want to be playing badly and see the advantages of snickers being their ideal solution to playing better as an athlete. Biases come to play through even just the popularity if snickers and their slogan. People know that food high in sugar is unhealthy for you though due to the influence of celebrities and big popularity of the company, people will still regularly buy snickers to fill their hunger or just for a snack.

Synthesize Evidence, Identify Alternatives:

Alternate solution #1: Snickers are good for your health and make you a better athlete.

Alternate solution #2: Snickers are not good for your health and will not enhance your ability to be a better athlete.

Select Best Alternative:

In conclusion, I believe that snickers do not make you a better athlete and are not good for your health at all.
