Whenever I play video games such as Fortnite or Rainbow Six Siege, I get a sense of nostalgia because the old version of those games are way better than the current version. The reason I feel this is nostalgic is because it seems like these game’s developers are trying too hard to keep up with the current trends in video games, which makes it the same as other games, which is boring. I feel like this is a positive nostalgic force in my life because although I miss the old version of these games, I don’t let it stop me from trying new games and move on from those games.

DO NOT REPEAT QUOTES from other classmates, OR, if you do repeat, you need to say something significantly different about it.

Example:

"We were having this conversation on a fine summer eventing...You could see lots of aerials and satellite dishes, and sometimes, right over in the distance, a glistening line that was the sea" (pg 17).

This quote introduces a recurring theme of Kathy seeing some kind of boundary or "line" on the horizon. This represents how Kathy is trapped by her environment, but she doesn't even realize it -- she doesn't realize what freedom is or how to achieve it. The book will end with a kind of "line" in the distance as well.

A lot of my old friends really changed during lockdown, and i miss who they were before. One of my close friends had to move pretty far away because of covid. we still keep in touch, but it sucks that it happened.

i think that nostalgia is good at times, but you can’t keep thinking about the past forever. it can get unhealthy, especially if you can’t let things go easily.

I remember when my twin brother and I were little, we’d watch children’s cartoons. They were simple and silly, the art style was mainly for kids, with bright colors and big shapes. It wasn’t exactly entertaining, but it was a way for us to hang out and watch our favorite characters solve problems. We don’t watch those kinds of shows anymore. The cartoons remind us of our childhood, and we plan on rewatching them some day.

It would be great to feel like a kid again. With scraped knees and loose teeth. Back when staying up to eight was crazy, and having more than one page of homework was the most upsetting thing that could happen. Before we knew about the bad in the world. I want to live in the present again. Not thinking about future tests and writing notes on things I won’t remember. Not memorizing facts and numbers and dates. I like my nostalgia, it’s a reminder of what I had, even when I had experienced so little in life that every other problem was the worst event to have ever dealt with.

I'm nostalgic about when I was younger and it would be the weekend, still in my Pjs with a bowl of cereal in my small

crowded living room watching My Little Pony. My mom blasting music cleaning around the house. My opinion - I'm somewhat in the middle I do think that it's okay to look back and remember how stuff used to be, it's okay to miss things or miss how things used to be. What I don't think is okay is when people get too stuck in the past, they don't want to do or try new things because they are so attached to how things used to be.They are so stuck in the past that they can't move forward. So I think being nostalgic is okay to a certain extent.

My friend and I would always be having a good time while getting in a work out. I miss being in those horribly lit gyms and just dribbling and shooting for hours on end.

#1 - I feel like nostalgia can have both a positive and negative impact on your life, depending on how you use it. If you use nostalgia to compare the past to the present, it can effect how you think of current events and can have a negative impact on your mindset. However, if you use nostalgia to remember the good times of your life it can help you escape reality and help you get past your current life struggles.

#2 - I think table 8 did a good job on their presentation. Not only did they do really good without their final partner, they also helped me get a lot of notes from their editorial and was probably the most notes of all the editorials.

I think Nostalgia is bad for people as it makes us need for something of the past that we feel like we no longer have, even tho sometimes we have never lost it, we’re just blind to it. If we have lost that thing then nostalgia can make us feel worse or wonder what could’ve happened if we hadn’t lost what we had. I say we could always look back at what we had, but we should always look towards the future and what we could do now to become better and more successful.

I think table 1 did good on understanding what the author wanted to tell us with their argument, and executed what they had to say with the authors evidence well.

Mad animal.’” (Ishiguro, page 12)

This quote shows the apathy in the childhoods of Ruth, Kathy, Tommy, and their other classmates. It was unnerving how the students watched, not worrying for Tommy, but in fact laughing at his sadness. They believed Tommy deserved to be bullied because he couldn’t control his emotional reactions. Showing emotions-or perhaps negative emotions specifically-at Hailsham is strongly discouraged.

It could be that they are raised to be carers, and once they have been too exposed to the real world, starting to understand that Hailsham might not be the dream they remembered, they are turned to donors.

Donors are normally agitated, in pain, and must be sedated to keep quiet. This could be because they would otherwise try to rebel or convince others to.

I agreed with Donna that Miss Lucy didn’t know what she was getting into when becoming a guardian at Hailsham. It makes sense that a new teacher wouldn’t understand fully how the school goes about certain subjects or have certain traditions, but to completely distance herself from a core belief taught to every student is different. Each child has been raised to strive for the best creations, to make things people seem to like better than other things. Tommy was told that the idea of superior art-which he has believed his whole life-wasn't that important, and it was a culture shock. Miss Lucy does not support the belief in creation above all else, unlike the other guardians, implying that she doesn’t agree at least to some degree with the practices of Hailsham. If she doesn’t agree with the teachings of the school, then she probably wouldn’t have been a guardian there if she had known and had a choice of where to work.

I agree that the kids aren’t very organic like in the book. The guardians highly discouraged them from using cigarettes to most likely preserve their organs because they would eventually end up becoming donors. And of course all of them can’t have kids which just makes it weirder to have an entire school filled with these kids that are trained to be the way they are. This also makes Mrs.Lucys outbreak seem a little more understandable as I’d also be tweaking if none of these kids found it a little weird that they are never allowed to go outside the premises, have kids, and preserve their organs.

So maybe by grief he quickly got back with Ruth which may mean the feelings for each other will be somewhat fake.

I disagree that Mrs Lucy left on her own and I believe that Mrs Lucy was made to leave. Because Miss Lucy states on page 81 “That’s what each one of you were created to do.” Thus suggests that they were not organically birthed, and adding on to that, they are strictly monitored at their time in Hailsham, so maybe that same monitoring applies to most their lives until they get sorta brainwashed to accept their lives.

But when she moves to Norfolk, she doesn’t have any pictures nor is she detailed with her explanation and almost vague. Maybe Hailsham is located in Norfolk, and that the cottages are in a different county, but the students are meant to believe that they hadn’t traveled far from Hailsham.

I don’t agree that Tommy isn’t weird but different. That’s because it’s the same thing basically. Different is when something or someone isn’t the same or is what you’d regularly see, and being weird is what you wouldn’t regularly see and it’s odd, it’s the same thing. Being weird isn’t what people make it out to be, when you say something is weird it doesn’t always have to be offensive such as people are saying. Tommy is different, he’s weird from the rest in terms of creativity and that’s what makes him stand out and make his character stand out and allows us to focus on him whenever we he appears.

And the reason why he’s prone to having outbursts is because others don’t see him on the same level as he does, and because of that, the students start to think he and his goals are weird and that’s how the bullying started.

I agree with Jayden about needing to figure out whether Hailsham students have the ability to decline donating. Hailsham students have no known parents, only guardians raising them to donate organs. They don’t have much trust and unity in their classrooms, children are without a secure relationship. The students don’t have support systems, they have nothing to go to if they disagree with Hailsham. If they had the option to decline, would they? Being a donor or carer gives them purpose, and they love where they were raised. They are desperate for purpose and wanting love from what they love. If giving away their organs makes them feel loved or appreciated by Hailsham in some way, they will take that opportunity. They are in a corner and must choose between living with nothing or dying with everything they think they want.

I agree with Beck about considering the existence of other schools like Hailsham. Places don’t have just one school where everyone goes, there are many schools in cities as well. It would be narrow minded to believe there was only one school like Hailsham on the whole planet. (Think of Harry Potter, Hogwarts isn’t the only magic school). One school can’t possibly supply the entire world with organs, if that’s what donations are for. If there is only one school, just Hailsham, we’d have to assume it relates somewhat to the fact students can’t reproduce. There is nostalgia in parenting, adults in general would like a miniature them going to the same school as them and reliving similar experiences. Many creatures have some form of desire for legacies.

By both guardians, who he wants to impress and probably looks up to, and peers who he wants friendships and inclusion. He has been an outcast his entire childhood, told he wasn’t good enough. It makes sense that he would be jealous when told by one of his few close friends that they think better of someone else for their artistic abilities. This ties back into the culture shock of Miss Lucy saying artwork wasn't important originally, and makes it more curious that she would pivot to saying he was practically trash for not being able to paint.
