Her one reason for not waiting for Gatsby when he was enrolled in the war was because she wanted to start a life and find someone to support her with their wealth. I think this reveals that Daisy is regretful and guilty for not staying with Gatsby, but also that her life has revolved around money.

Lexi

Gatsby claims "her voice is full of money" when commenting on Daisy. This suggests that his love for her really isn't love, and is more lust for success and wealth. The way he describes her throughout the story and in this quote suggests she is merely an object he needs in order to feel successful. We can connect this to the American Dream as this is how society projects success, a man with a beautiful and charming wife, and being wealthy and successful.

Fitzgerald highlighted the opulence and excess of the Roaring 20's to express how consumerism deteriorated society's morals and values. Gatsby was previously poor and was ashamed of that fact, so he hid it through his new self-made wealth, which also reflected optimism many Americans felt hoping they could do the same

Also, the green light on the edge of Daisy's dock that Gatsby can see from his house is symbolizing him chasing his dreams and placement of that light is very important to the story.

On the East Egg, families and people have old money, and resort to the past generations and history, white the West Egg is people of new money. Tom and Daisy live on the East Egg, because both came from old money. Gatsby lives on the West Egg because he built himself and made his own money. People from East Egg like Tom, tend to hold themselves higher than new money people because old money seems more classified. The new money is also deemed to be made from sketchy encounters which creates tension between Tom and Gatsby's encounters.

Lexi

The way that the "eggs" are positioned make the story more interesting because of the different traits that living in the two bring out.

The commentary made about Fitzgerald about the roaring 20's shows the way that he ironically portrays that time of wealth and greed. The distinctions he made between old money and new money show the way that era was centered around extreme displays of wealth.

As Daisy walked through Gatsby's house, she admired everything. When Gatsby pulled out a bunch of fancy shirts, It was her last straw. She cried when she saw the shirts because It marked her realization that Gatsby had everything she wanted. She said, ''It makes me sad because I've never seen such Beautiful shirts before''. Money and expensive things are most important to Daisy. Although Daisy may love Gatsby, her greed overpowers love. So at this moment, when she saw all that Gatsby had, her mind completely changed. She cried because she regretted marrying Tom, for Gatsby had everything she wanted.

This moment was a turning point for Daisy and Gatsbys relationship. She realizes that he has the life she always wanted and everything she ever desired. She didnt decide to be with him when he wasnt rich and now its too late, shes already married to Tom. At this time, she didnt really have an option to be with Gatsby because in the 1920s divorce wasnt very common and at a high social status, would not be a good look for a woman. I think this scene reveals that Daisy doesnt love Gatsby or Tom becauser if she loved Gatsby, she would have been with him when he didnt have money. If she loved Tom, she wouldnt have wanted someone else. I think all Daisy doesn't want a man, she wants a life of glamour, and in the 20s that would be impossible to get on her own.

The Great Gatsby has elements of the Jazz age shown with Gatsby's Luxurious party's in his mansion. In the book areas of New York are spread out by old and new money which represents that more people in the American society are wealthier and have more to show off with their excessive amount of money.

Gatsby describes Daisys voice as ¨full of money¨ I think she reminds him of a time when he didnt have money because now that hes rich, Daisy is the only thing he can never have. So he wants her more than anything. I think this relates to the American Dream because Daisy and Gatsby as a couple would fit that role perfectly and Gatsby feels like he needs to claim her in order to be fully successful and get everything hes ever wanted.

The scene helps emphasize the main theme of wealth in the book. The Great Gatspy was set on the east coast which is the epitome of wealth in the U.S, especially at this time. West Egg and East Egg show the distinctions between old money and new money. Gatspy lived in the West Egg showing his new money. Daisy and Tom lived in the East Egg which is more old money or filled with people with generational wealth. Where the characters come from shows their traits.
