Summarize President Nixon’s foreign policy during his  years in office (1969-1974).  Be sure to include the following:
Richard Nixon desired to be known for his expertise in foreign policy. Though he will forever be remembered for the Watergate scandal, his foreign policy accomplishments are worth noting. Nixon reviewed troops during his historic visit to China that helped lessen diplomatic tensions. In June 1971 Kissinger traveled to China secretly to make preparations for a presidential visit. When he returned Nixon surprised everyone by telling them he would travel to China and meet Mao Zedong. The United States dropped its opposition towards Chinese en try in United Nations after Nixon toured the Great Wall and drank toasts with Chinese learners.  



Triangular Diplomacy
 Richard Nixon initiated several new trends in American  diplomatic relations, he contended that the communist world consisted of two rival powers which were the Soviet Union and China. Given the long history of animosity between those two nations Nixon and his advisor. Henry Kissinger decided to exploit that rivalry to win advantages for the United States, and this policy became known as triangular diplomacy.


Detente
In May 19 72, Nexton made an equally significant trip to Moscow to support a nuclear arms agreement. The product of this visit was the strategic arms limitation treaty, the United States and the Soviet union pledged to limit the number of interest, con tin until ballistic missiles each side would build, and to protect the development of anti-ballistic missile systems.


Summarize the Watergate break-in and scandal that cost Richard Nixon the Presidency in 1974.


Five men broke into the headquarters of the Democratic National Commitee located in the Watergate Hotel in Washington DC they weren’t ordinary thieves they carried wiretaps to install on telephones and carried cameras to photograph documents. Four of the five criminals were anti Castro Cubans who was previously hired by the CIA. The fifth being James McCord who was a security advisor for the campaign staff of Nixon, the Commitee to Re elect the President. The incident did not make front pages of the major newspapers, but would soon become the most notorious political scandal in American history.
