What do you think of the claim made in The Social Dilemma? Is it “true”? Is there another truth? Can the sale of our attention be understood from another point of view? Should it be?

Yes social media is a big problem that left unchecked could have the potential to be a very negative force for humanity. The algorithms building it as addictive as possible to keep as many people's attention as possible on their site can have many negative repercussions. Especially when individuals are making poor decisions in their real life because of this addiction. This is especially scary looking to our future generations as we don't fully know all of the negative effects that this will have on our kids growing up with this challenge of social media.

Yes I think we should be able to view social media from a different perspective than the one presented in The Social Dilemma. It's important to remember the purpose of The Social Dilemma which can be better understood when looking at the medium it is delivered in. It's meant to be an entertaining eye opening film for the masses. They don't go into the nitty gritty details of exactly what's going on because they don't think you need to know these details to understand the challenges that come from social media. I am not convinced that if I went to the sources of all of this and got into the actual details of exactly what is going on that I would come to the same conclusions. Depending on what sources you go to you might have different perspectives than that of The Social Dilemma, and I don't think that is a bad thing.

At less, people can decide what kind of data wants to share to that plataform so we decide what we want.

I don’t believe social media itself is a huge problem, I believe it’s what we value in social media, social media doesn’t value conversations or anything productive, we value our own self worth directly from social media, meaning people value taking selfies and wanting to get famous on tik tok dances for other people and when not everyone can then they believe they are lesser. Social media can be amazing for creators like myself as I can see other creations, tip, and tricks to better my craft but when people post themselves just to post themselves then that’s a problem.

So that 7 million feel like 3 billion and they can convince people by making them feel like the majority actually disagrees slowly eventually making 3 billion people disagree.

However, social media could be a more positive force if the motivations of its creators wasn't centered around methods of generating revenue. The fact that profit is the main goal of the people that run social media is what has caused the issues surrounding it. I think in the future social media could be a much better thing for us all if the forces driving it were to change.

Given that truth itself now depends on individual perspective, with the diversity of experience and perspective present today there almost certainly isn't any one statement we all can agree on. Given a different definition of truth, where truth is essentially the undeniable consensus, then I would say yes there is. The most likely candidate for such a truth would have to be something that stems from pure logic, which is the best tool we humans have for finding the closest thing to the truth. Mathematics is just a set of systems and statements that logically occur once you take a small set of axioms for granted, essentially if you agree on those axioms, then you must accept the rest of mathematics as truth. This universal truth is why we use math as our best candidate of displaying our own intelligence to aliens. If our choice of what to use to display our intelligence to aliens isn't the closest thing to a fundamental truth I don't know what is.

It is a place where you can connect with people from all over the world and share ideas, but it is also a place where misinformation spreads rapidly and users can easily be influenced. The monetization and political agendas behind social media and its use is definitely negative and directly impacting society, but without them social media probably wouldn't exist, at least not in the way it does today.

It is hard to perfectly define truth. It can be objective in the way that not everyone experiences events the same or has the same understanding of the world, so their "truth" would be different. There is a way to get closer to the truth though. If you see a post online giving medical advice and the person who posted it is a doctor, it is going to be closer to the truth than medical advice posted by a random person. The problem is that it is becoming too easy to pretend that anything is the truth and people think that they can choose what is true based on what they see personally and what they want to believe.

Social media is often a expression of ourselves and often more so on social media than in person. However, it is so easy to become addicted and so focused on social media that we don't live in reality at times. We allow media to consume us in every single way to the point where we are not ourselves but a replica or something we saw.
