Throughout my undergraduate work I was initially a Psychology major so I took a lot of classes dealing with the human brain and psyche as well as sociology classes that taught topics based on human interaction, but I never grasped much information dealing with social injustices and how to address those topics in real life. I grew up in Chicago and was exposed to a lot of racism, but didn't learn a lot of strategies to combat this as a young child. I am a very open-minded thinker because of my exposure to a variety of cultures and ethnicities, but I did not develop a good base for dealing with other people who are prejudice of others, which has caused me to allow people to act and say things not appropriate. Based on the information I learned from this class, my definition of social justice is a way to build up a society in which individuals have equal access to resources and receive equitable treatment regardless of their race, gender, religion, sexuality, income level or disability.
