to summarise;
Alvin Plantinga was a modern advocate of the Ontological argument, his argument being that religious belief does not need external justification. He applies a modal logic approach to the ontological argument; meaning he considers possibility and necessity.
He believed for something to be considered possible is to say that there is a possible world in which it is actual, and to say that something is necessary is to say that in every possible world it is actual.

The modal ontological argument, like Anselm's, begins with a statement about God.
"God, if he exists, is a necessary being. That is, if God exists at all then he exists in every possible world." (this is the modal approach).. How does this work?... well...
Firstly, if we agree that it is possible for God to exist, then he does, because like we established previously, for something to be possible in our world, there is a "possible world where it is actual". To explain further.. there must be another world where God actually exists, for him to possibly exist in our world.
