Kitkat is one out of many favorite American consumable products and is especially known for its famous line “Have a break, have a KitKat’. One of KitKat’s well known commercials is “Santa needs a break” which humorously portrays Santa Claus taking a much-needed break from his Christmas duties, highlighting that even the busiest people deserve to relax and enjoy a KitKat.

The intended target audience this commercial is reaching for may include families, adults/working individuals, and holiday shoppers. The reasons for that may be that KitKat is marketed as a quick, convenient snack for people who need a break from their busy schedules, as well as the commercial ties into the festive season when KitKat is often enjoyed as a snack by all ages.

One element to consider is the representation of rhetorical appeal inside the commercial. The use of Santa Claus, a trusted and universally recognized figure, lends credibility and adds a fun, nostalgic element to the ad all while the ad creates humor and warmth by showing Santa in a relatable situation, feeling tired and needing a break. Lastly this all can be tied together when the commercial appeals to logic by presenting the idea that everyone, even Santa needs a break. Just this simple and relatable message emphasizes that KitKat is the perfect snack to take during those breaks.

I believe the KitKat commercial "Santa needs a break" is effective in boosting sales because the ad showcases Santa as a hard-working figure who, just like anyone else, needs a break. This recognition of a well-known character connects with audiences. The serving purpose of catching Santa, an iconic, busy figure, taking a break with a KitKat creates a lighthearted, memorable moment that people associate with the product, in particular when timed perfectly for the holiday season. Since people are already in a festive, gift-buying mood. KitKat capitalizes on this by making the ad feel timely and relevant, increasing the chance that consumers will pick up the product while doing their holiday shopping.

The catchy phrase "Have a break, have a KitKat" ties into the idea of a moment of relaxation, which resonates deeply with holiday stress. And because of the use of a beloved character like Santa, it can appeal to both adults and children. Parents watching may relate to the stress of the holiday season, while kids may simply love the fun of seeing Santa enjoy a KitKat. Overall, the "Santa needs a break" commercial creates a fun, relatable, and memorable narrative that ties in well with KitKat’s brand message of taking a break, and it does so in a way that makes people feel positive about the product, boosting the likelihood of sales.
