Most of the sessions in debate are sessions in which we explore different topics of controversy such as inheritence tax or the management of nuclear weapons and have mock debates about those topics in WSD format.

Visiting the Tampines MINDS center

Our service visited the headquarters of Tampines MINDS to meet our clients and the facilitators we would be working with. Through this experience we not only met with our clients, we also received a preview on what they wanted our sessions to look like.

Radin Mas Performance

I was able to use the skills that I trained at the ITP flute sessions to contribute to my community at the Radin Mas community center. As part of an orchestra, I played christmas carols to lighten up the mood at the christmas event being held there. I was able to explore how the opportunities I had been given could help me give back to the community.

Tampines MINDS End of Year Celebration

The clients thankfully invited us to their end of year celebration where we led our session with a lot more people than usual.

MUN Conference Experience

At the UWCSEA EAST MUN Conference I took on the role of advocate for the first time in the ICC. Having to study about Omar Al-Bashir and speak as his defendant was a very different but nevertheless intriguing experience. Through hard work and effort I managed to get the award of best advocate pair at the end of the conference.

Me and my fellow cheerleaders continued to practice the given dance tasks in preparation of the upcoming Cheerleading performances in real games

Performing in SEASAC

Although we weren't able to dance because of some people were busy and weren't able to participate, meaning me and my friend had to fill in with managing the posters, I still performed on the Cheer team for SEASAC touch.

Cheer Stunts

I also joined the Cheer Stunts group for another hour per week and started practicing cartwheels, lifting, and more cheerleading skills. I had less experience, which caused a disparity in skill that I had to overcome with more practice in my free time.

MUN Training Experience

I started training A/B group, which was a group including the most talented of the high school MUN delegates in UWCSEA. I focused less on developing their MUN skills because I felt as though they would already be sufficient in those and rather focused on their presentation skills. These presentation skills included the use of pathos in speeches.

3/12 Mock Debate

In this mock debate I made a case against the notion that it was wrong to commercialize areas with lower levels of development. In doing so I was able to apply the theories of development that I had learnt in global politics to debate.

9/10 Mock Debate

This was the first mock debate we did in debate class. By making a case for the regulation of nuclear weapons, I was able to address policy solutions to conflict and fulfill the reason as to why I joined the debate club in the first place.

Chairing for MYMUNOFS

I joined MYMUNOFS to help chair for an intermediate committee. The topic was of great interest to me because it was about the de-militarization of space, which I had researched previously during my debate endeavors.

SEASAC MUN

I went to Bangkok to join SEASAC MUN where I was part of the UNHCR, discussing issues on refugee crises form the perspective of Lebanon. I was able to achieve best delegate through preparation and execution.

Hosting a debate tournament (3/31)

I organized an international debate tournament with students from Vietnam, Taiwan, and Singapore all debating in public forum format. I cooperated with a NGO called UBI Taiwan to make this possible as well as a debate academy called Ascent Academy.

Mission Trip to Thailand, Chiang Mai

I went to Chiang Mai, Thailand, with my church's youth group to attend elementary schools in the mountains. However, due to the religious climate of Thailand we didn't spread the Word as much as we tried to show them love, care, and affection that they hadn't recieved as children seperated from their parents.

Mission Trip with Ezemiah, South Korea

I went to South Korea over the summer to participate in an international diaspora mission program called Ezemiah. There, I went to two different churches in South Korea to teach a programs in English, effectively spreading both biblical and linguistic knowledge.

At the Basic Income Earth Network conference I was able to explore my interests in legislative policymaking by listening to lectures about Universal Basic Income professors and their evaluations of its feasibility. Additionally, I also interviewed various Korean politicians and even made a speech in front of them, effectively displaying my interest in politically contributing to making a more sustainable world.

Project Week

At project week I was able to explore UWC values through the hardships we endured and the success that followed. While I was initially physically and mentally challenged by the harsh environment and the lack of protection against insects, I soon came to realize the beauty of being in such an environment and what a great opportunity it was. Even the treck, which seemed useless and unnecessarily exhausting at the time came to stay as a great memory that reminds me of the fruit of labor.
