I was report duty at Grand Margherita Hotel at 8.30am and the HR manager had give us some briefing about do and don't during working hour. After that, i was sent to Riverside Majestic Hotel to meet the Human Resource Executive, Miss Victoria and she was given me one employee handbook, one service credos handbook and one best answer to guest question handbook. Miss Victoria also told me that i will be assign to two department which are F&B Department and Housekeeping Department. I will be at F&B Department from 6 February until 26 March while 27 March until 26 May, I will be at Housekeeping Department.

After that, I was sent to meet F&B Manager, Mr Sikung Dandut and he decided to assigned me at Banquet department.

Things that I had learned today is that the type of room that have at banquet department and there was many type of layout that are available for different meeting. I also learned that the used of coaster glass which we need to place it on the table and put the goblet on top of it to prevent the glass mouth dirty. Besides that, I also had the chance to learned about the type of glasses that used in a hotel such as high ball glass, goblet, red wine and white wine glass, Irish coffee glass. Apart from that, i also had learned the type of cutlery and plate such as saucer, BB plate, dessert fork, dinner fork, tea spoon, table spoon.

1. First we need place the paper in the middle.
2. Second put the tissue on the right side and a fork on it.
3. Place the goblet at the upside of the fork then mineral water on the left side of the goblet. (the goblet is put upside down on the coaster)
4. Next is put the coffee cup together with tea spoon on the right side of the goblet.
5. She told me that there is a step to read a BEO.

Step to read a BEO:
1. First we need to make sure the date is correct so that we will not set wrong function.
2. Second is the name of the function. Example in the pic below, the name of the function is 'Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar Sarawak-Seminar'.
3. Third is to see the time of the function. This is very important because we need to know what time the function start and end so that we can prepared am break, lunch, reset, pm break on time.
4. Fourth is check what package do the function have and what should should be included.
5. Fifth is check the backdrop is correct or not.

It seem like a normal paper but it was included many important details about a function that is going to happen at banquet department. Everyday the first thing we reach office is to check what is today event and the coming day event so we can prepared well. Example, this  'Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar Sarawak-Seminar' is going to held on Friday, 17 February 2017, so the day before which is 16th we need to done prepared the function room already.

To setup a event room, we need to refer to BEO too. Example, in the BEO below we need to see at the Banquet Setup section where there will write the venue and the things that need for the event such as round setup for 44 persons (8 person per table), 1 white screen, 1 headtable for 2 person and more. Last but not least we also need to check the audio system situation is good and microphone is in good condition.

I was quite disappointed on myself today because I was made a mistake on this WOK package function. The mistake that I had done was a customer came and ask me that is the food can be take away or not then I answer them can but according to the rule and regulation on hotel, guest supposed is not allow to take away the from to outside the hotel. It is because if after the guest ate the food and he or she get sick or stomach pain, it was not the responsible of hotel but is personal. So if guest want take away is no problem but if happen anything they should not blame the hotel.

Waste removal. Make clear all working floor except using material. 

Set In Order (Seiton) is mean arrange all necessary items so that they can be easily selected for use. Prevent loss and waste of time by arranging work station in such a way that all tooling / equipment is in close proximity. Make it easy to find and pick up necessary items. 
Ensure first-in-first-out FIFO basis. Make workflow smooth and easy. 
All of the above work should be done on a regular basis. Maintain safety. Place components according to their uses, with the frequently used components being nearest to the work place. 

For Shine (Seiso) is mean clean your workplace on daily basis completely or set cleaning frequency. Prevent machinery and equipment deterioration. Keep workplace safe and easy to work. Keep workplace clean and pleasing to work in. When in place, anyone not familiar to the environment must be able to detect any problems within 50 feet in 5 secs.

For Standardize (Seiketsu) mean standardize the best practices in the work area. Maintain high standards in workplace organization at all times. Maintain orderliness. Maintain everything in order and according to its standard. Everything in its right place. Every process has a standard.

  • Forum on Forest Landscape was held at Riverside Majestic Hotel in Sarawak Chamber ballroom. This forum had 240 pax participants. Today was very busy because the turnover of this forum was very fast so everything we done must be fast and planned well. For example, we need to prepared more cutlery, coffee, tea, napkins, BB plate and goblet for the am break and pm break turnover, included their lunch section too. To make sure everything go smooth, it was really need cooperation from everyone. Teamwork is really important in a group of people to ensure that a activities can go smooth and success.

    Like Care is use to clean the toilet, fresh can mix with care so that there will be a good smell when clean the toilet. For vision is only can use on glass like window glass and bowl cider is only can use to clean the toilet bowl side and this chemical must use carefully because this chemical cannot drop on the marble floor.     I also said thank and show my respect to all the staff and manager because they really help me a lot when I was practical at Riverside Majestic Hotel. They teach me nicely and patiently, answering my every question and help me sincerely although I am a practical student only. I learned a lot from them and I wish I can meet them in one day again.
