The last three days of January, according to a popular Italian tradition linked to climate and weather conditions, are called the "blackbird days".

Legend has it that January 29th, 30th and 31st are the coldest and harshest of the entire winter and tells of a time when all the blackbirds were white while the blackbirds were black.

According to this legend, at the end of January, a blackbird decided to take refuge in a chimney to escape the cold temperatures. When she came out, contact with the soot in the chimney had changed her color, making her different from the others.

According to popular belief, blackbird days have the ability to predict the duration of winter based on the temperatures recorded in the final three days of January. If the weather remains mild during this period, the end of the cold season is believed to be delayed, while freezing temperatures suggest the approach of spring.
