Pitch pines has adapted their bark to take more fire so they can survive longer. Also the trees braches are really high up so that most fires can't reach them. They also need fire to start growing because the seeds are covered with resine so when the fire comes along it melts the resine and the tree and start growing without anything that can compete with it.

This fire can help trees like Pitch pines by melting the risen covering the seed. So fire can help trees grow. And if a plant can reproduce after a fire, it can evolve to be flammable, so that it can take out its competition with it so its numbers can increase.
