In Romeo and Juliet and "Pyramus and Thisbe" Juliet and Thisbe both commit suicide for the same reasons. Juliet finds her lover, Romeo, dead which leads her to commit suicide because of her strong love for Romeo. In "Pyramus and Thisbe" Thisbe also finds her lover dead, and she decides to kill herself because she does not want to be be separated from Pyramus. In both stories the pair of lovers are so devoted to each other that Juliet and Thisbe kill themselves so they will not be separated and they won't be in a world without their lovers, Romeo and Pyramus.

This is seen in "Pyramus and Thisbe" when it says, “She understood all. 'Your own hand killed you,' she said, 'and your love for me. I too can be brave.I too can love. Only death would have had the power to separate us. It shall not have that power now.' She plunged into her heart the sword that was still wet with his life’s blood.” (Ovid, Paragraph 7).
This is also seen in Romeo and Juliet when it says,"O churl, drunk all, and left no friendly drop

To help me after? I will kiss thy lips.

Haply some poison yet doth hang on them,

To make me die with a restorative...O happy dagger,

This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die.

(stabs herself with ROMEO’s dagger and dies)."(Shakespeare, 5.3.175-184)

love cannot be forbidden:

by: Macey Garey

In Romeo & Juliet, and Pyramus & Thisbe, there is a similar theme where love can't be forbidden. According to the text in Pyramus & Thisbe, "The more that flame is covered up, the hotter it burns. Also love can always find a way. It was impossible that these two whose hearts were on fire should be kept apart." This is foreshadowing how Pyramus and Thisbe are going to take the risk to be with each other. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet says, "Deny thy father and refuse thy name., if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,

And I’ll no longer be a Capulet." She is stating that as long as he loves her, she will no longer be considered a Capulet.

In Pyramus and Thisbe, Thisbe was ALMOST killed by the lioness, but the her cloak was torn. Pyramus thought Thisbe was dead from the bloody and torn cloak, so he committed suicide. In Romeo and Juliet, Balthasar told Romeo about Juliet's funeral, and thus Romeo buys a poison, kills Paris, and commits suicide the SECOND before Juliet wakes up.
