  •  Physical features       -Castle rock is located in Gove County                     -Lots of prairies (1/3 of all landforms in Kansas)               -208 miles from North to South and 411 miles from East to West.       -Highest place is Mt. Sunflower

    •       -Has an inland sea called the Permian Sea.           -400+ variety  of plants, about 150 species of bird, 39 different reptiles, and 31 species of mammals.                             -Has the Ogallala aquifer, which is 500 feet deep in some places.           -Cheyenne Bottoms is one of the few natural lakes 
    • Weather
    -Kansas has some of the worst tornadoes in the country 
    • Plants and Animals
    -The animals in Kansas have adapted to the harsh climate on the prairie 
    -The rarest of animals in Kansas are opossum, raccoon,jackrabbit, and even prairie dogs!

    • High Plains
    -Outcroppings of sandstone can be found among the desert vegetation
    • Red Hills
    -The area contains hills red with iron oxide
    • Glaciated Region
    -in some places the ice here was 500 feet thick
    • Ozark Plateau
    -Caves can be found here
    • Arkansas River Lowlands
    -formed by the rocks from the Rocky Mountains
    • Wellington-McPherson Lowlands
    -contains sand dunes covered in grasses 
    • Cherokee Lowlands
    -A gentle rolling landscape of very fertile soil
    • Chautauqua Hills
    -The land here is used mainly for grazing
    • Smoky Hills
    -About 100 million years ago, this region was under an ocean that created sandstone and limestone
    • Flint Hills Uplands
    -One of the last tallgrass prairies in the country
    • Osage Cuestas
    -Contains east-facing cliffs with gentle slopes to the west

Today, we plow and irrigate the prairies, we change the environment to meet our needs. Over time, technology has given us the ability to remove oil,gas,coal,zinc, and other resources from below the ground.
    Nature alters our lives as well. in the 1900s, agricultural practices overworked the land.
