1. In my opinion, i feel that banning phone in school is effective in reducing screen time. banning phones may be effective as it helps to reduce the amount of time students spend on their devices. It removes the opportunity for students to access to social media, games and other apps which contributes to screen time. Phones can be a distraction even if they are not actively being used. It can lead to improvements in mental health wellbeing, physical activity and grades.

On the other hand, phone’s can be a distraction and reduce focus. It can also reduce face-to-face interaction. 1. No, I do not think that a ban on phones is effective in reducing phone addiction among students. Some students might bring a "dummy" phone to submit and then proceed to use their real phone in class. Students might also complain about the fact that they cannot communicate with their parent guardians anymore. They are most likely to worry about emergencies, as they would have no way of finding out what is happening in their personal lives if they do not have their phone with them.

2. In my personal opinion, phones are not really a necessity in today's classrooms, unless used for education (when student is missing a PLD, or just in general), or the teacher requires it. However, phones can be very distracting, because when not caught, the student might be playing games or scrolling social media without the teacher's knowledge.

1.I think that banning phones in schools will not help to reduce addiction of phones as students also use their phones when outside of the school and they will have nothing to limit their screen time so banning phones in school will only not allow students to call , text or play online but not stopping them outside of school and they will be engrossed with thier phone at home.

Other than that phones can be a distraction as it can reduce focus in class thus not helping with their learning. Schools should find ways to show that phones can be used for good purposes instead of using for other reasons except emergencies.

Do you think a ban on phones in schools is effective in reducing phone addiction among students? Why or why not?

1. Well, it depends on how the school decides to enforce on the phone ban. In my opinion, whether the school decides to put a heavy ban on phones in school or not, i don't think it will help reduce phone addiction among students. As a person who is still currently studying in school and having friends who have a phone addiction, they will find ways to bypass the system. For example, the students can bring a "dummy" phone, a cheap second-hand phone that can be bought off Carousell or Ebay. The students can bring the "dummy" phone to school and can hand the "real" phone to the school. This allows the school to think that the student has handed over the phone but in reality, it's a "dummy" phone and the students can use it during their free period or a area where there isn't a teacher supervising. Besides, even if the schools decides to ban phones in school, the students will still find ways to bring phones on school ground. It will make students tempted to bypass the system and will find all different solutions so that the system might "break". Some students might rebel due to the ban of phones in school.

2. I think phones are a necessity in today's classroom as a phone offers a real sense of security. In the event of an emergency, whether it's a medical issue or something more serious, students can quickly reach out for help. Plus, it opens up a direct line of communication with parents. This would be more convenient for parents, students and teachers to be more in direct contact with each other. Since many students today have grown up using phones, they are extremely comfortable with technology. Students of this generation have an intuitive sense of learning when it comes to tech and can help facilitate even the hardest of materials when made digital on a screen that the student is familiar with. That is my personal opinion.
