1) Because I think at that time there wasn't a lot of public transportations in the remote are and maybe the postman was too poor to buy a bike or motorbike.
2) Because there weren't a lot of schools in remote area and probably most families were farmers so they didn't need to study.
3) Maybe they needed to use wood for fire to warm them so they had to use ice blocks. It was easy to build but also kept the people warm.
4) The igloo was only a temporary structure built to avoid dangerous weather like blizzards or snow storms. People in this area had to move constantly so 1 room was enough to ensure them a safe place for a short period of time. Also everyone in the same room would keep them warm.
