         <description><![CDATA[<div>UKS2/KS3<br>The book follows the story of a young girl called December (Ember), who lives with her Dad (Harry), her mother died when she was young, and her best friend Happiness (Ness) lives next door. Ness sadly dies and one day when Ember is walking home from school she is approached by her Uncle Graham. Graham’s dog has recently died and he has struck a deal with the mysterious Ms Todd to exchange Ember’s life for the return of his dog. It is whilst in the world of grey that Ember discovers Ness (a shell of who she once was).
