School is located in an affluent area in a large city.  Many students are involved in activities such as sports in and outside of school.  There are issues of bullying and mental health issues.  Many of the students are cutting and the staff is just becoming aware.  There is a good variety of greenspace in the area.

Divide students into groups of 5, goal is to discuss their bus ride to school and the landmarks they see along the way. Each student can draw a photo of the landmark they see, then decide amongst the group which landmarks to include in the paragraph (might have the same landmarks drawn if they are on the same bus route). Each student is assigned a role, one to discuss the topic sentence, three students each explaining one of the landmarks, and the last student wrapping up the paragraph with a concluding sentence. By assigning students into groups, students will have the opportunity to interact with students who may be outside of their typically social circle. Using the Smartboard, the teacher will introduce the 5 sections of a paragraph with their students (topic sentence, three supporting middles sentences and a concluding sentence) (Subject Expert). 

Following this, the teacher will lead students on a short outdoor walk (Teacher Expert). This walk will take place on pavement to ensure that is is accessible for the student in a wheel chair. Students will be encouraged to stay in their group for the entirety of the walk to promote collaboration (Milieus Expert). 

Once students return from their walk, students will select a topic based on their walk and each student from the group will write one sentence for their paragraph. Those who would benefit from using technology have access to computers and Smartboards. Following this, students will work together to ensure that their paragraph is consistent and flows (Curriculum Making Expert).

Students will have an option to share their paragraph and depending on students comfort levels they can opt for this option (making it accommodating for the 3 students with anxiety).

Use the EA’s to circle the classroom and prompt students' thinking process’ in relation to creating meaning for what they are watching. Idea behind watching television show is to provide a clear beginning, middle and end for students.

Get students to write a paragraph summary on the cartoon/ show that they watched. They are tying in writing a paragraph to something they already know, like analyzing a tv shows framework.

Having students choose their favourite cartoon/ television because it is interesting to them and is something that they like. It promotes engagement, which will make them more inclined to learn. 

Teacher Expert: 
Teachers should lean away from traditional or previous curriculum structure and provide students with a new type of learning, where the students has more ‘control’ over their learning.
