Prompt: With all that you have learned throughout this unit, which drug or substance (may include tobacco, alcohol, vaping, illegal drugs etc) do you think is the most dangerous? Why? Address all pertinent areas of concern (e.g. ease of access, cost, immediate community/neighborhood, societal views, biology etc.)

`Out of the substances listed, vaping is the most dangerous, however not at the moment. Currently, cigarettes and tobacco are frowned upon and are becoming less widely used in favor of vaping, since vaping is considered to be "safer". According to the BBC, in recent years vaping has begun to grow fast, especially in teens, rising from 5 million users globally in 2014 to 45 million in 2018. That's just a gap of 4 years! Other tobacco products are still more widely used than vaping products, but their usage is beginning to trend downwards in favor of vaping. We still don't know much about the side effects of vaping so far, but from what we have seen it is just as bad and if not worse than cigarettes. In the future over-usage of vaping could be a problem like it was with cigarettes in the 60's and 70's, all because tobacco companies decided kids would like their products more if it was mango flavoured.

I think heroin is the most dangerous. It is super easy to get addicted to, and people can't stop once they had just a little bit. This is REALLY bad because it has a lot of bad effects and punishments when you get caught doing it. Some of the worst things that are short term symptoms of heroin are nausea, vomiting, and severe itching. Some of the worst things that are long-term symptoms are cold sweats, itching, weakening of the immune system, coma and these can lead to death.

I believe that the most dangerous substance is methamphetamine due to the damage caused and how addictive it is. Meth is a highly pure drug that is made on a mass scale and sold for low prices. According to the NSDUH, over 500,000 Americans over the age of 11 were classified as meth abusers. Although meth deceases your need for sleep and increases excitability during the "high," meth is known to cause damage to the regions of the brain used for learning, memory, and emotional regulation. Past the "high," your body's dopamine production depletes and receptors are unable to bind properly once meth leaves the body. This is what makes meth so addictive. https://americanaddictioncenters.org/adult-addiction-treatment-programs/most-addictive#Methamphetamine
These addictions eventually turn into drug binges. Drug binges of meth come with terrible post stages like "tweaking" or what's known as a "meth hangover." These after effects cause the body to 🤬 down and return to a deteriorated, starved and dehydrated state. Meth also increases suicide rates by 80% for a user. https://www.drugfreeworld.org/drugfacts/crystalmeth/the-stages-of-the-meth-experience.html
Aside from the effects of the actual drug, just the action of smoking, snorting, and injecting come with its own dangers. Examples like damaged sinus cavities, tooth decay, and diseases like HIV can come before the drugs effects even start. https://americanaddictioncenters.org/meth-treatment/smoking-snorting-injecting

One of the most dangerous drugs or substances that we have learned about in this unit is vaping because it contains nicotine which is extremely addictive. They come in flavors that would be of high interest to kids and teens such as grape and cotton candy. According to cdc.gov, "young people who use e-cigarettes may be more likely to smoke cigarettes in the future." This leads to even unhealthier habits that are likely to cause health problems and even premature death.

The most dangerous substance that I have learned about in this unit in my opinion is tobacco. It is marketed to children with the intent of getting them addicted while also being accessible almost everywhere. it is a legal substance that is being marketed to kids with the malicious intent to get them addicted. This is far more accessible then other drugs with a average cost of 7 dollars according to hd.ingham. Tabbaco is also heavily dangerous according tobetterhealth.vic.gov.au essentaily saying that cigarets contain things such as carbon monixide a poisonus gas, and these types of ingredients the Cdc "If cigarette smoking continues at the current rate among youth in this country, 5.6 million of today’s Americans younger than 18 will die early from a smoking-related illness. That’s about 1 of every 13 Americans aged 17 years or younger who are alive today.". This 'drug' is aiming to get children addicted which will result in many deaths in people underage dyeing which may lead to less overall population growth due to all of these kids not being able to reproduce in 30 years. This 'drug' will cause bloodlines to die.

The drug or substance that would be the most dangerous has to be cigarettes because they are fairly cheap. According to Balancing Everything, the average pack of cigarettes in 2020 cost about $7.02 in Nevada. Also the companies that produce the cigarettes try to appeal more and more to those of the younger age. Other reasons why cigarettes might be the most dangerous substance is because it is very addictive and starts killing your lungs bit by bit. The site drugfree.org states, "A new government study finds almost 70 percent of American smokers want to quit, and more than half tried last year, but only 6 percent succeeded."
This shows that even though people try really hard to quit, most can't do it. Again that proves my point on how cigarettes are so addictive. Yes, vaping is very dangerous, but the CDC says, "As of February 18, 2020, a total of 2,807 hospitalized EVALI cases or deaths have been reported to CDC from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and two U.S. territories" while "Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure." I am not saying that vaping is better, vaping is still bad for you, it just that cigarettes have been around for such a long time that more people use cigarettes than vaping.

For instance oral cancer lung cancer. Breast and Liver cancer. Much more. These things do happen over time but they still do happen. Tobacco is not that hard to access for kids. They can steal one from parents they can pay someone of age to buy they could probably find a pack on the floor or somewhere. This is why i think Tobacco is the worst.
https://www.cdc.gov/cancer/kinds.htm

Based on the CDC, excessive drinking is responsible for more than 3,500 deaths among underage youth each year, and cost the U.S. $24 billion in economic costs in 2010. In addition, in 2013, there were approximately 119,000 emergency rooms visits by people aged 12 to 21 for injuries and other conditions linked to alcohol.

I think the most dangerous drug is tobacco. Tobacco is very easy to access, especially since it is legal and cheap. It contains over 7000 cancer-causing chemicals. Tobacco is extremely addictive and it can have permanent effects on the lungs. Smoking it can put you at risk for respiratory diseases and damage your airway passages. Cigarettes, which usually contain tobacco, cause 90% of cases of lung cancer. Tobacco contributes to secondhand smoke, which increases risks of lung diseases in people who are around smokers. The marketing of tobacco makes the risk even worse. Companies will market their products to kids by adding candy-like flavors. Tobacco is truly one of the most hazardous drugs due to its highly addictive nature and permanent damage.
Sources: https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/index.htm
https://truthinitiative.org/research-resources/tobacco-industry-marketing/4-marketing-tactics-e-cigarette-companies-use-target

In my opinion the most dangerous drug/substance is Tabaco and thinks that contain it. This is because tobacco is highly addictive and comes with many different health risks like cancer. There are many thinks that contain tobacco and each come with different health risks, the most common now are vapes and cigarettes'. Tobacco doesn't only affect the smoker it also affect the people around them with second hand smoking causing 25 million adult non smoker deaths since 1964. For children in can cause ear infections, permanent lung damage, and for adults can cause lung cancer. A major problem with both cigarettes' and vape industry is they target children because they are more likely to get addicted to their product. In the U.S alone companies spent 9 billion dollars in marketing.

Even thought all these substances are harmful, the most dangerous would be vaping. Vaping is harmful to your lungs and body but is also harmful to the environment. When you vape you are inhaling smoke and nicotine which is highly additive. Vaping can cause serious lung damage and can even lead to death. Stores direct vape pens to kids with different flavors like bubble gum or cookies. Even worse, teens brains and bodies are still developing which can cause long-term harm there bodies and may lead to premature death. Our bodies are not designed to inhale smoke so we can't filter out the chemicals in the smoke. Second hand smoke happens with people around cigarette smokers as well as vapers. People around vapers also inhale the smoke that they exhale. Second hand smoking is not as bad as vaping yourself but you would not mark it as a good thing. Vaping can damage our bodies, harm our environment, and even lead to death.
https://kidshealth.org/en/teens/e-cigarettes.html#:~:text=Vaping%20puts%20nicotine%20into%20the,of%20addiction%20later%20in%20life

Out of the substances we have learned throughout this unit, I think the most dangerous one is alcohol for a range of reasons. First of all it is very easy to access. It could be anywhere from the supermarket to the local gas station. Those clerks will sell them as much as they will buy. According to www.pugetsound.edu , a case of beer can typically cost anywhere from 5-10 bucks. What alcohol will do the brain is absurd. Although for a limited amount of time, it can cause people to be absolute lunatics. Whether it be driving accidents or violence. This will effect societal views in different ways. One way will include the effect of reputation. Many people want to stay away from excessive alcoholics. Think about it, a person would rather hang out in a community with non-constant alcoholics. Finally, long-term health risks will come into play. according to www.cdc.gov, alcohol can cause "high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and digestive problems". All can lead to a struggle to live or death. Excessive alcohol will often cause mental issues and anxiety. That will effect people's way of living and thoughts. To conclude, in the reasons of ease of acess, reputation, and long term health risks make alcohol the worst drug/substance of the ones we learned throughout the unit.

Sources: https://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/fact-sheets/alcohol-use.htm

https://www.pugetsound.edu/student-life/counseling-health-and-wellness/training-prevention/substance-abuse-prevention/alcohol-you/how-much-does-alcohol-cost/

This give access to teenagers to only pay a little amount to maybe a friend and can easily get a vape. They are also colorful and covered in designs which may draw appeal. Vapes contain high levels of nicotine and toxic chemicals that can cause damage too the lungs. According to the CDC as of February 18, 2020, a total of 2,807 vaping and e-cigarette related illnesses. According to National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism around 88,0005 people die annually from alcohol related incidents which is one reason why it's probably the most dangerous substance. Along with that it damages your body, specifically the liver which can lead to hepatitis, jaundice and cirrhosis. Alcohol can also affect your daily life by making you smell (it'll come out through your skin as sweat), affect your mood by making you aggressive or depressed as well as your memory since most people don't remember what happened to them whilst drunk. Overall that's why the substance I think is the most dangerous is alcohol.

Throughout this lesson we learned about the dangers of substance and drugs. These two things have terrible impacts on the lives of people who use them and they also have effects on people who don't even use them. And after going through this lesson, i think that alcohol has a more dangerous effects than the effects of drugs. There are many reasons for my opinion. My first reason is that the influence of alcohol causes millions of deaths every year, and not only the deaths of the person who is under the influence, but also the people who had the unfortunate timing of being there near the person under the influence. A good example of this is people who drive when they are under the influence. Sometimes the people who are drunk crash and die, but some times the other person in a different car doesn't make it. In 2016, 10,497 people died in alcohol impaired driving crashes, accounting for 28% of all traffic related deaths in the United States. Not only does alcohol kill people by poor choices, it kills you from the inside. It lowers your immune system, it makes your white blood cells sluggish and much less efficient. (conehealth.com) Another big thing is that it can also damage your circulatory system, heavier drinkers are more likely to have heart problems than the non drinker (conehealth.com) In conclusion, just because its legal doesn't mean its safe.

Drinking and driving is very harmful to everyone that is near the person that has had alcohol, according to the CDC, 29 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. https://www.cdc.gov/motorvehiclesafety/impaired_driving/Binge drinking is a cause in many risks to the binge drinker which could be alcohol poisoning, alcohol can increase violence which includes homicide, suicide, and sexual assault. One reason I believe Tobacco/Vaping is the most dangerous is because the Tobacco industry is trying to make their ads more accessible or desirable to children. According to https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/tobacco_industry/marketing/index.htm
The text says, "Adolescents who are exposed to cigarette advertising often find the ads appealing. Tobacco ads make smoking appear to be appealing, which can increase adolescents’ desire to smoke." This just shows that the Tobacco industry is trying to get kids hooked while they are young, and while they are the most susceptable to addiction.

I think alcohol is the most dangerous of drugs. For starters its fairly cheap, as you walk into the story you catch a glimpse of a beer and its like 2 dollars individually. Secondly Access to it is very wide, most stores sell some form of alcohol. Thirdly according to the CDC an alcoholic will live 48 to 53 years keeping these people hooked for years and it destroys their liver and brain. Also according to a study made by the University of Minnesota alcohol is more widely available in poor neighborhoods.

Even with our good and bad lifestyles, there are always things that can make them worse such as addictive drugs and alcohol. To me the worst of these would be alcohol. Anyone can get access to alcohol as stores have these on shelves in any local supermarket or gas station. Alcohol can make you act different, become violent and even pass out if taken too much. We haven't even talked about the worst part, addiction. Alcohol addiction kills as it can kill your liver fairly quickly. According to https://www.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/brochures-and-fact-sheets/alcohol-facts-and-statistics,
88,000 people die per year on average, making alcohol the 3rd most preventable death in the US. Alcohol is also the 5th most leading premature death factor in the world. Alcohol can also cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, which deforms the child even before birth. The life expectancy for FAS is 34 years, way too short.

I think the most dangerous substance we learned about in this unit is tobacco. It is one of the easiest to have access to, along with alcohol, because almost anyone can sell them legally. Unlike alcohol, however, it is much easier to hide and use. You can store an entire pack of them in your pocket, while a single bottle or can of beer will likely get you caught. It is very cheap when compared to other drugs, as you can probably get 2 cigarettes for a dollar, and packs are even cheaper in bulk. Another reason tobacco is more dangerous, is the fact it is addictive. There is a ton of nicotine in each one, which is almost a guarantee you will get one again. What's worse is that is is known that cigarettes cause many kinds of terrible diseases like lung cancer and heart disease. They essentially destroy your body slowly, and force you to keep doing it through an addictive substance

https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/health_effects/effects_cig_smoking/index.htm

These sores are caused by the chemicals in meth trying to leave your body through your pores. Meth is inexpensive and most people start using it because of prescribed drugs and human trafficking. This drug has many negative effects on your body, for example, you can pass out at any moment and just drop to the ground. Meth is just not a good drug. One of the main ingredients in meth is Ajax soap.
You wouldn't think that a soap could be used as a drug.

The first reason was because it is very harmful to your liver, lungs and heart which can cause major health issues that may involve death. Drugs and alcohol substances can create different mood swings like depression and anger which may harm others. Areas where these things are mainly involved around is casinos where little kids can get involved in second-hand smoke which I believe is harmful to inhale. Drugs and alcohol can also cause aging to people faces such as wrinkles or sagging to the face. These unhealthy substances can also cause deformities in the infants bodies during pregnancy's and can put the child's life at risk.

People who begin drinking before 15 are 4 times more likely to develop alcoholism.Teens will most likely drink and not become aware of their surroundings and will start to drive. Also “ethanol is the substance that makes you drunk. Alcohol can have powerful effects on your mood and mental state. Liver diseases are caused by alcohol.” I had got my evidence from notes in class and “ Healthline.com”
