Fortunately, 💚CTSS💚has held a programme about upcycling and i have learnt a lot from it.

The ⭐️main learning point⭐️is that to save the earth, to save the environment, to make a positive impact on the environment, 👆🏻EVERYONE👆🏻has to do their part. It is ‼️🙅🏻‍♀️NOT🙅🏻‍♀️‼️a one man’s job but rather a job that has to be done by everyone. This was when i realised😟the importance of spreading awareness and 👩🏻‍🏫🍎educating👩🏻‍🏫🍎others.

It not only promotes environmental awareness but also incorporates craft skills and creativity which brings out how purposeful upcycling can be. To me, upcycling advocates a more sustainable lifestyle and encourages us to be conscious consumers.
2. I have learnt about many creative ways of using my used materials such as making bottle pencil cases, card holders, and wallets. I have also learnt about what we choose to do with our used products affects the environment. It would be best to give the used product a new purpose rather than disposing it as trash is troublesome and every single disposed trash adds up to a negative environmental effect.
3. The most important thing I have learnt is that our habits and what we consume have an impact on environment. If I were to use metal straws instead of plastic straws, I would be able to save a lot of plastic and if I did not bring my metal straw on a particular day, I would choose to not get any drinks to save plastic and money.
4. Through upcycling, I realized how much used materials I have at home that I can give new purpose to. It is eye-opening to see the amount of packaging and used products I can upcycle and that has taught me to try and consume less of plastic packaging and products. I think that this will be the outcome of others who start to upcycle as well, and it will have a positive impact on the environment.
5. I will try and not use takeaway when I do not need to because I think it is a waste to use so much Styrofoam and plastic that is difficult to upcycle once contaminated with food. I will try and bring my own tupperware to dabao if I can.
6. I think a good way to show others this information is through social media. Upcycling is the use of materials (that would normally be discarded) to create a product that can be integrated into our daily lives that functions the same if not better than a product that has previously existed. It can also be a realm where we can unleash our creativity to design and test new products that may not be conventional and tweak it to fit our personal criterias. Upcycling is not only a habit, but a lifestyle, having the skill and ability to be able to constantly manipulate mundane “useless” materials into something that satisfies one’s ideal use of the product.

Firstly, I was always under the impression that common materials such as paper, plastics etc. could only be recycled. Previously unaware of the existence of upcycling, I widened my vision and knowledge about upcycling and discovered the hidden “recipes” within plastic bottles. It was an eye opening experience and an honour to be able to experience the programme as it has taught me the beauty of upcycling materials.

Secondly, learning about upcycling made me appreciate the environment more than something that we live in. Our environment is the soul of our civilization and the foundation of our lives, without our environment, nothing would be possible. This made me appreciate our environment and inspired me to educate myself about environment-related issues through research and youtube videos that I have found online.

Like I have mentioned in point 2, what was most important to me was being able to appreciate the environment for more than just a place or our surroundings.

Upcycling allows us to recreate products in the comfort of our homes without the use of fuels (to power the machine etc.) this leaves a significantly lesser amount of carbon footprint. Upcycling takes advantage of the current resources that we have to create new products that do not involve the harm of our precious marine ecosystems nor our breathable air. It can also be used as evidence that boring materials are just another portal to a potentially greener world in the future.

5) One of the habits that I would like to incorporate into my daily life is the general awareness of what I throw into my rubbish bin. I should consider the materials and its potential to create another product that I can use before throwing it away. And even if it is unable to be upcycled, I should also consider whether it can be recycled.

6) With the dynamic of society, social media is a popular platform where people interact. With the use of social media and other platforms, I can use my influence on various platforms to spread awareness to my peers and juniors.
