As an online facilitator, the role of providing feedback to participants in an online workshop is crucial. Providing constructive feedback to participants increases positive behavior and motivation. It also provides guidance on how to proceed. For this reason, the tone and dose of feedback should be determined well in online training. If the facilitator gives very limited feedback or does not even give feedback, this affects the motivation of the participants negatively. The language used in feedback also plays a role in the participant's learning journey. The facilitator should use positive and development-oriented language.

The facilitator can give individual or collective feedback. Personal email, one-on-one chat, skype or phone call can be used for individual feedback. Inactive participants in particular should be contacted immediately.

The facilitator can provide collective feedback via the public discussion forum or group email. For this, feedback can be given to the participants on a pre-determined day of the week. This allows participants to have clear expectations. Facilitators need to use communication skills effectively to monitor, develop and guide learning.

Providing feedback is the key to learning and development.
