The absolute size of the entire global financial market really surprised me. The market cap of cryptocurrency alone seems enormous, but knowing that is only 2.5% of the stock market shows just how inflated currency really is.

This topic is interesting to me as cryptocurrency gives a lot of insight into the psychological aspect of economics and the value of something. The technology is interesting but I personally only see it being used as an asset and investment for people

I would say not to be scared of cryptocurrency in general, Bitcoin is the true idea of cryptocurrency and the state of the market with all the scams is just taking advantage of the current technological state of society. I still support the idea of Bitcoin but just don't it see it being fully adopted.

This video explains the original idea of Bitcoin and the ideal cryptocurrency. We will view Bitcoin as the true idea of cryptocurrency and while there are others, only one really makes sense to have in the economy proposed by the idea itself. The video explains why Bitcoin was created and does a good job explaining the technology in layman's terms. It is also important to know the technological limitations of the software.

The video does a nice job explaining the value of cryptocurrency compared to a FIAT currency while also recognizing that it is generally treated as an investment. We will explain the value of Bitcoin further in detail in the next video.

What do Canadians Think about Crypto?

This is a video from 2024 showing various Canadians opinions on cryptocurrency. Everybody sees cryptocurrency as an investment that is volatile and it is clear that cryptocurrency is viewed as an investment like stocks.

I chose this video as it is one of the most recent videos that I can find. I find it interesting how well known cryptocurrency is and how many people seem to only view it as an investment and that is why I don't think it will ever become a global currency. People generally have the same opinion that is a very volatile investment.

This video shows how and why money was created and the evolution of currency to what we have today. It explains scarcity of currency and the idea of inflation. The advantage of cryptocurrency (Bitcoin specifically) is that the inflation rate is controlled and there will ultimately be a finate supply.

Seeing the evolution of currency to cryptocurrency is well explained and easy to follow. However just because it is a good idea and works, doesn't mean governments will use it and it will have a mass adoption as a global currency. Because of this, it is generally treated as an asset for investment.

This video was created 2 years ago, when most cryptocurrency regulations really began around the world. This video explains how cryptocurrency taxes are done in Canada. In Canada cryptocurrency has its own regulations but is generally treated like a security.

This video goes through several examples which I find very useful instead of just explaining the numbers as that is very hard to follow. There are a few good tips on how to save money on your taxes in Canada. Even though this video is a bit older, it is still relevant and provides a good channel to follow to stay updated on tax regulation in Canada.

This website goes into a lot of detail about the history of Bitcoin and the technological evolution of the network realtive to the price. It lists all the early transactions and how it was viewed in the world when it began. It is interesting how it truly was used for its intended purpose in the beginning, but it was at its lowest valuation in terms of FIAT currency.

This website goes into multiple various facts about Bitcoin in a very detailed way. It explains the inflation of FIAT versus Bitcoin however cryptocurrency is only worth anything tied to a FIAT currency. I think this is an interesting point and that if FIAT currency eventually is worth nothing, what would the value of Bitcoin be?

This is the government of Canada website for cryptocurrency. It shows the most up to date information on how Canada treats cryptocurrency and what tax laws and regulations are in place surrounding it. This cements that cryptocurrencies will just generally be treated as digital assets.

I chose this as it is the most accurate information on what the current laws and regulations are around cryptocurrency in Canada. The website does a good job explaining what cryptocurrency is and the risks of investing in it as well. I learned that Canada is working on digitization of its own dollar which of course will the the general trend of most FIAT currencies. This is basically how it is done already anyway.

It is also a good financial resource website for other financial information. There are a lot of other references to cryptocurrency investing also listed in this article.

I learned how little the global cryptocurrency market cap is still compared to the stock market. The cryptocurrency total market was only 2.5% of the stock market in 2021 (globally).

Of course the interesting thing about Bitcoin is that the supply will eventually be fixed.

This website lists almost all global assets and provides lists and various search options. Here we we will look at the size of the markets in USD.

I chose this website because you can search almost anything and it is very well organized and easy to use. I learned just how big the gold market is and was quite fascinated. I think there are a lot of similarities between gold and Bitcoin as they are both seen as very valuable under very specific conditions. While gold is of course well adopted and used for its elemental properties, Bitcoin is not adopted as a digital decentralized currency and therefore remains only an asset.
