Hello my name is Emma. 2 years ago I decided to walk away from a job of 24 years and return to full time education aiming to become an adult nurse. Having just completed my 1st year of university and stepping into 2nd year it is the best decision I have made, (There has been a few doubts on the way). I have completed 2 placements, one being in the hospital and the 2nd being in the community, it has certainly opened my eyes to how every nurse I have come across goes above and beyond expectations, they are selfless people. This is who I aspire to be when I achieve my end goal. They have inspired me to care for patients whilst being empathetic, also considering the patients family, understanding their feelings sometimes at a saddened time. My end goal is to be the best nurse whilst giving the best care to my upmost ability.

Hi my name is Claire, I'm a 2nd year student and decided to get back into education 2 years ago after being out of education for 30 plus years. It was a very daunting time as I felt I would be one of the eldest students but thankfully I wasn't. Never having any care experience I thought I would always be behind everyone else but meeting some amazing nurses on my placements soon put that worry to bed. I have loved my 1st year and cant wait to start my 2nd year, I have always had an interest in GP nursing so having this opportunity is fantastic and I look forward to developing more skills in different areas.

Hello everyone! My name is Sophia I am a third-year adult nursing student. I am excited to be starting this course, I have been lucky enough to have experienced a few spoke days with GP nurses and have been inspired by their breadth of knowledge and skills and motivated by the variety of work and how they serve their communities. It has also made me realise how much there is to learn, so I am looking forward to developing my kowledge to help progress my chosen career path. I have a real interest in helping people manage long term conditions. The last 3 years have flown by (I completed an access course before uni) it’s been challenging at times but very fulfilling. My love of coffee and trail running has definitely helped me through😊

I myself haven’t come across any GP nurses but I have been doing lots of research and I have to admit that this is something I will most likely take on after a lot of knowledge from nurses who do know people in GP nursing. I do hope to build knowledge in this field and will be happy to use any knowledge gained forward into the future. :)

Hi, My name is Kayleigh and I have just started my third year. Like Abigail, I also can't believe how fast time has gone and the idea of it almost being time to find and apply for actual jobs is terrifying. GP and community nursing are areas I am really interested in, but so far have had no placement experience in them. I like the idea of caring for people closer to home so that they perhaps don't have to go into hospital or can be discharged from hospital sooner. I am looking forward to learning more about what a GP nurse's job entails and seeing the differences between nurses who work on hospital wards. I like the idea of a GP nurse having more autonomy and believe they can make such an important impact as a primary care giver over the entire life span of patients. I am really looking forward to this course.

Hello everyone, my name is Jaydene. I have been a qualified nurse for 7 years with experience in oncology, orthopaedics, A + E and currently palliative care in a hospice setting.

I am currently on maternity leave after having my second daughter who is now 9 months old. Whilst on maternity leave I am also one of the nurses who has unfortunately been made redundant due to the current palliative care funding crisis.

I have always had a desire at some point in my career to transition to General practice nursing. But for various reasons the time to transition in my career just hasn’t arisen, such as Covid 19 pandemic, having children etc. I come from a family of practice nurses, and I also loved the role when I had some exposure as a student nurse. I find the variation within the role and the opportunity to learn about and specialise in lots of areas exciting. I am always eager to expand knowledge and skills and develop professionally. I also love the fact that the role allows you to work closely with patients over time, placing emphasis on that personalised patient care, often missed in the hospital setting. This also allows a deeper understanding of patient’s healthcare needs and that within the wider community. I feel this really allows you to make a tangible difference to the health and well-being of your patients.

So with my current position, i felt like this was the time to take the leap and transition to practice nursing once my maternity leave ends at the start of next year. So i saw this course pop up and thought it would be really helpful to get more knowledge to help that transition, and hopefully to give me the knowledge to support me finding a suitable role when the time comes.

I am looking forward to getting my head back into the world of nursing and not just nappies and nursery rhymes haha.

Hey Everyone! 👋🏽 I'm Yash. I've been a qualified adult nurse for 4 years now! The time has flown by. I moved down from Newcastle in 2017 for uni at bcu and never looked back. I qualified in the heat of the pandemic which was hard but built me into the nurse I am today. I've worked in cardiology for a couple years and loved it, worked on the wards,Coronary Care Unit (CCU), day case and Cath labs, very hands on and every day was different. Then decided I wanted to try something different as all my placements/ experiences were in a hospital. So I decided to try a couple of nursing homes. In all honesty I got very bored 😂 as it wasn't very clinical and wanted something more hands on. I am currently working in a private hospital which is elective surgical, T&O, something different to what I'm use to but wanted experience in this field. The hospital is brand new and in the works of fully opening theater and wards.

I've always been curious about GP nursing as it seems interesting and will come across quite a lot of different conditions (excited to learn how to manage and treat these). The idea of working with people and families from birth to death seems cool as you don't get that in other settings. I've never worked with children/babies so that exposure would be good as it's a whole new world to me. Gp nursing seems good to me as there's so much room for progression and further enhance training. Looking forward to this course to learn the ins and outs of General practice. 😊

I am excited to start this module course, but I am also scared and nervous as I can’t believe this is my last year and I will be applying for jobs soon. Community and GP nursing I have always had a interest in these areas as I like the idea of being to care for people in quieter and homely as well as develop relationships with patients as I believe that you are able to develop that rapport due to the one to one basis compared to a hospital setting where you have also multiple things to do and patients in a short space of time , I have not had the chance yet of a community or GP practice but I have worked the community and I found it extremely rewarding and beneficial I loved getting to know my service users as it allowed me to tailor my care to there likes , needs and wants. I am also looking forwards to learn what GP nursing entails the roles and responsibilities to allow me to develop my skills. An interacting fact about me is I love praying. I also love going to the gym and exercise.

Hi everyone my name is Julia, I prefer to go by Lia though. I am a second year Adult Nursing student.

I have always been interested in GP nursing, specifically sexual health and I’m very excited to start this module and I’m really happy to be part of it. After I quality I would like to work as a GP nurse and eventually train to be an ANP. From this module I’d like to learn more about the GP process and what nurses need to do and how to become a GP nurse.

An interesting fact about me is that I studied Psychology for almost 2 years previously, however changed my mind and decided that I was much more passionate about nursing.

Hello everyone, sorry for the delay in me posting. My name is Jodie Pilsworth, I am currently in my 3rd year of Adult nursing as a student. I really wanted the extra exposure with the GP Nursing course, I feel you have the ability to see people throughout their health journeys etc and be more personal with them when in a primary care setting and not just a person in a bed as such. Look forward to the course and getting to know people.
