Today's session was pretty straight forward, but also contained a hefty amount of work to sort our way through. As we move onto unit 8, research is one of the keys to getting the end product as solid and cohesive as possible, and therefore it was my aim to get as many of the allotted research documents done as possible. To my disappointment, I really didn't get as much done as possible, and that's not really anybody's fault but my own. I have many an issue with procrastination, and all of the tasks piled up to an immense proportion, leaving me feeling swamped with work and slightly helpless when it came to completing everything that I wanted to complete within the hours I was in college. Of course, I will use my study days to their effect, as there's no point wasting massive amounts of time during a period such as this, but I understand at the same time that Rome wasn't built in a day and I do need to use my time wisely.

I did achieve a few positive things throughout the course of this session, such as writing larger pieces during the time I was in class and starting to garner a much wider understanding of what being a screenwriter entails and how I can successfully complete an entire script in a matter of 20 days or so. I feel slightly more confident now that I have a better knowledge about my craft, and this means that I can give myself more time to perfect the parts that I'm not so keen on doing.

My goal for the upcoming week is to solidify my plans and make sure that I have a clear set goal for the end product, as I've been wandering blindly for a few days and I understand that I'll never get anything done if I don't sort out a proper solid plan right now.

As I had outstanding work from the session prior, my main objective was to complete that and start on to the next set of tasks, and unfortunately I did not meet that goal. It was a disappointing occurrence and understandably not one of my proudest moments, but a mixture of procrastination and lack of direction created a missed mark that I regret. I wish I'd have been a lot more productive, as my lack of work in the session has piled up to the point where I have a lot to do during my free time, and I'm constantly working. It's not as if I didn't expect that already, but the work is piling and piling to the point where I'm unsure if I'm going to get it all done.

Meanwhile, a good element of my day was the fact that I managed to get some primary research rolling, beginning with a survey that I put online and received a plethora of results towards. The goodness of this was that I could get a wide range of answers and therefore start my general research, compiling all of the answers and tidbits from friends and strangers alike into a summary. This survey in particular was regarding film preferences and certain choices, a solid question that I wanted to answer was a budding filmmaker.

Today I do wish that I'd have had more get up and go regarding my work, as if I keep going the way I am, I'm going to end up with a pile of backlogged research. I should have started on my pre-production today, but to my dismay I wasn't ready, and I wish I'd have aimed for that.

I have an onslaught of anxiety issues that prevent me from true focus whenever it comes to getting hefty amounts of work done. By today, I was still unaware of the exact form my project would be taking, and I was skating on thin ice by not having this decision finalised already. After speaking to Hannah, the conclusion that we came to was that the best idea would be to create a promotional pack for the hypothetical short film I would have made, and this allows me to write a script but also flex my limited photo editing skills and even try my hand at photography.

The idea of this is slightly daunting to say the least but I feel as if this is something I can take on with a lot more ease, as opposed to me creating an entire short film by myself. This project should be looked at in terms of what I can realistically do and how I can make what I've done look unrealistic. I want to create something interesting and in-depth, not rushed and sloppy.

In general today I've used my writing skills to pave my way through these documents, and I feel better as I write more, increasing my confidence and finding more solutions to fix whenever I bump into one. Next session I'd like to use these further and get around to starting pre-production.

Pre-production work was to begin today, and it was a slightly cosy settlement from one aspect to another. Because my main task throughout the FMP is to screenwrite a short film and create a press pack, I fell very easily into the task and even managed to have some fun with it. I'm very comfortable with writing when I get into the swing of it, so it was nice to flex my skills and start to sink my teeth into the project. I managed to crank out the first page and the first key scene, and introduction mostly.

Something I struggled with, however, was the general formatting of the script. I've only had brief experience with scriptwriting, so I ended up having to look up a lot of the short-cuts and abbreviations in order for me to comfortably settle and understand what I was doing. I was relying on other sources and examples to carry me through, and I'd like to get to the end of the script with a little less support, but I understand that if I need it then I need it.

For the next lesson, I'd like to apply all of the confidence I gained and really channel it as I create more and more of the script. It was a breath of fresh air to feel comfortable and I could not be happier with what I have so far.

Today was a bit of a slow day as far as work goes, as I ended up filling out some sheets and bulking up my pre-production rather than working on the script. The good thing about my production work is that I'm going to have a little more time to polish up the script, as I don't need to worry about shooting the film or doing much actual production, so I'm comfortable to take extra time in order to create something engaging and interesting, rather than muddled and confusing.

I do wish that I'd gotten into gear earlier in the session, as I ended up with a lot of work on my back and not enough of it done. I feel as if I'd benefit from finishing a lot earlier, and I'm having to do some of the pre-production work at home. It's something I've done often that irritates me and my work ethic.

For the next session I'd like to acquire more focus, rather than leaving all of the work to the last minute as I often do. I only got into the right gear an hour before we could leave, and that just leaves me with more work to do before the next session.

On one hand, I get work done much more consistently if I'm in a working environment with other people and proper equipment. Another thing is that I don't trust myself to get motivated enough to work at home.

Fortunately, I created some more pre-production documents and made sure all of that work was out of the way before I finished my script, as I wanted to put all of my focus into the one thing I care so much about. This worked out well for me, as I ended up finishing my script the next day by solely focusing on that and only that.

Next week, I hope to concentrate fully on my experiments and maybe write another draft of my script before it's final, just so I can really feel satisfied with my work. I don't plan on taking many more days off from college, as it's really not logical or smart thinking.

I'm starting to really doubt my work ethic on this project. I feel as if I'm not creating the best standard of work that I could, and it's disheartening as I came in with the overall idea that I would pass with flying colours. I want to do the best that I can possibly do, and I don't know if I am. Today, I worked on finishing a couple of pre-production elements and briefly touching on my experimentation, but I didn't get nearly as far into that as I had wanted to today. I need to desperately work on my concentration and focus before it's too late to save a lot of my project. I don't want to be trailing behind with nothing to present by the due-date, and that thought alone worries me.

Something positive in this session was that I had a chance to pitch and get my idea across, as well as conduct some further research that I'd been meaning to do. I wrote a short piece on imagery within posters, which gave me a better insight on the conventions and key colours of film noir posters.

Next session, I need to get myself into gear and really focus on the matters at hand instead of letting my feelings get the best of me and my work.

I conducted a short focus group about the effective nature of my script and if the narrative was coherent and entertaining for my target audience of late teenage and early adult demographics. Surprising to me, the response was a very positive one that restored my overall hope and belief in the project, and the comments were thoughtful and insightful. For example, one respondent spoke fondly of my narrative and spoke about how it was entertaining, which means that I've captured the mind and thoughts of an audience member successfully.

Of course, the constructive criticism was valid and very much needed, and it was mostly involving my ending and the structure. One respondent mentioned that the ending was messy, and could be tweaked to ensure that the entire thing runs in a much smoother way. I agree with this very strongly, as it was slightly shoehorned in just to have an ending in the first place.

To improve the script as a whole, I plan on creating a slightly different ending which allows me to add a cleaner and smoother conclusion. This way, the plot will be tied up concisely with little to no confusion being left in-between the dialogue. This hasn't exactly convinced me to go forward with using my alternate ending, but I do plan on rewriting some areas of both scripts before submission day. I want to put out something I'm proud of and can use in the future to represent my writing style and presence, and being told by my focus group that this piece was well written has only solidified my confidence just a bit more, but I understand that there are many tweaks t be done.

A slow start kicked off today's proceedings, which was wrapped up with a focus group and the completion of my experiments. By focusing and allowing myself to be quiet and determined, I wrote a great deal more of the vital work that I knew was desperate to be finished, and essentially completed every stage of pre-production work, including booking my equipment in preparation for the shoot next week. I still need to order the costume pieces and the props, so those are priorities for the following 8 days.

I feel as if I could have completed everything a lot quicker, as the tasks at hand weren't exactly strenuous and didn't really need as much time spent on them as I did, but they were eventually finalised and I'd like to go back on some of this work before the due date, just to make sure everything is up to standard and ready for submission.

Next session, I need to concentrate and focus in order to meet my goals on time, and today has really solidified my work ethic as something slightly more determined and desperate.

Officially starting production, I was pleased to finally get to this part of the project, as I feel my hard work had been plentiful throughout the past few weeks and this was the part where I was truly starting to finalise bits and pieces, create and create. As I'm compiling together a press pack, I spent an hour doing intensive research on the elements and key components. I wanted to get a feel of what my final product may look like, and found myself more inspired by the art driven packs than the pages that just read one title.

I did struggle to come up with content, as I was realising that the bulk of a press pack needed a full production team, a full cast, etc. I was the only person working on 'La Dame', so I struggled to fill out the various areas that evidently needed filling out. It really started to show around 3 paragraphs in, and my head was pounding with frustration and stress. I felt as if my end product was going to seem half baked and pretty terrible.

I ended up leaving class earlier due to the tension headache, and whilst doing that, I forgot to pick up the camera I was meant to take for my photoshoot on Tuesday. Overall, today could have been more productive, and I wish my work ethic was stronger and my memory wasn't filled with so many holes that result in me making mistakes like this.

Next session, I plan to complete my press pack and get as much production done as possible.

A really silly realisation, but today a couple of my friends pointed out that the French title I was using was grammatically wrong, which meant I had to go back and change not only the poster but a bunch of my documents. This really setback the entire finalisation that I'd planned by a good few hours, and although I was productive, it didn't feel fulfilling. I'd really wanted to have finished my FMP today and started my evaluation, but this wasn't going to be realistic or likely. Not for me.

On a positive note, I did end up with a clean image and a smoother poster design, as I'd had the time to go over the placement of every later and really tidy the edges. It looks a great deal more professional in comparison to what I'll call the first draft, and I'm pretty pleased, even if I feel as if I wasn't too productive.

Next session, I aim to complete the FMP once and for all, and hopefully begin my evaluation with persistence.

As well as this being a fantastic thing, it meant that I didn't have very much to do, as everyone was too busy for me to pull them behind for a focus group. It wouldn't have been fair of me to do so, as I'm not the type to throw someone else's work off in order to gain something for myself, but I wish that I could have been a tad more productive today.

On the plus-side, I had my work finished! The press pack, review and script were all ready to be handed in, aside from a few minor tweaks that I'll be making before submission, and I still feel somewhat unsure about the finished products. I'd edited the day before, and because I no longer had the image files, I couldn't edit further. There are plenty of final touches to be made before the 17th.

In the end, I wish I'd have been slightly more productive and a little more attentive, for the benefit of the FMP.

Instead of getting the respondents to read over my script and focus on that element, I decided to get them to read my press pack and answer a few questions on that. The results were very positive, as you can tell by the feedback I received, a few stand-out comments being that it came across as very professional and even engaging. I must admit that one of my main worries was that it didn't come across as professional enough. Student work really gets the stereotype of being clunky and not exactly good enough for proper production, a shame as some films can be very intriguing and even rival the work of a professional, so to hear that my peers found the press pack to be both professional and engaging was a major compliment. To me, that's the real validation I wanted to receive, the idea that my press pack would be good enough to send to an actual studio or producer.

My images were also positively received, and I got praise for my editing, which was a relief. My respondents essentially mentioned that the edits reflected the overall theme and aesthetic of my project, exactly what I intended to do.

In terms of improvements to be made, it mostly came in the form of nitpicks, which I took as a good sign, mostly because that means there wasn't too much on the agenda to fix and change. Regardless, I'll be fixing the minor errors in the pack, such as the multiple credits I gave myself that just come across as clunky and ever so slightly out of place.

To basically finalise my press pack, I will be going over the entire document and changing grammar. I really do want the pack to be so professional looking that it could be sent to a studio for analysis, etc.

As explained in my analysis, the press pack was positively received, and praised for coming across as professional. This is an exciting element that I get to embrace, due to the fact that I was convinced for the longest time that it didn't come across as engaging or professional. It was fantastic to finally get this part finished, and since I have most of my powerpoint done, I can get to work on the evaluation.

For me, evaluation is usually my strongest chunk of work, as I'm pretty confident when it comes to really assessing myself and my sets of skills and I know that if I can pick apart my work and talk about how I can improve it, I've mostly done a great job. There is always work to improve and always work to be done, and I'm a strong believer of this.

Next session, I plan on working diligently to get a good chunk of my evaluation finished. In reality, I'd like to wrap up early, so working quick and fast from here is the best option to reaching my goal.

After waiting a few days to do so, I was finally able to present my powerpoint and show off my work, proudly. I initially thought it would be done in front of the C.A.S.T team, but it ended up being in front of a camera, and that was incredibly reassuring for someone with mild anxiety problems. I felt comfortable talking about La Dame, and this marked a huge difference in comparison to how a presentation may have gone for me a few units a go, There were a few blips where I got slightly confused with my own words and had to save myself from going off of the wall, but I mostly came across as comfortable and confident. Speaking of confidence, that has certainly soared throughout the span of this course, and I'm thankful for that.

A negative trait I have is that I'm very easily distracted, and tend to get off of track if I don't pay full attention to one thing. This really came out today when I spent chunks of time doing tasks that weren't relevant. I need to realise that I'm not going to finish as early as I'd like unless I learn to pay more attention and genuinely apply that.

Next session should see me continuing my evaluation, which I wrote a larger chunk of after the presentation, and hopefully applying some more concentration and intelligence.

Not very much to report on today and monday, due to the bulk of the session being taken up by evaluation writing and general reviewing of the whole project, but I do have pride in my work. I'm proud of everything I've achieved with minimal help and general uncertainty. Sure, I didn't make a music video or an actual short film, but I have the ground works for future projects at my finger tips, and it's nice to reflect on how far I've come instead of feeling sad because I wasn't able to do everything I wanted to do.

I plan on moving forward with La Dame, like I mentioned in my evaluation a couple of times, and using the FMP as a vessel to movie forward and create with really paid off. A few things I wish I'd concentrated more on include research, pre-production and proof reading. I want to be more vigilant and careful with my work, and these three elements would enable me to have stronger and much more thoughtful pieces.

This unit has taught me a lot, but it's also allowed me to understand that I'm not perfect. I miss deadlines, my grammar is messy, I need to grow into my imperfections and truly understand this from an adult view that not all of my work is going to be up to scratch.
