He could picture the mother owls and father owls, helplessly flying in circles while their babies were being smothered under tons of dirt. It made Roy sad and angry.

“Roy suppressed a smile. Beatrice had sized up his mother perfectly: Mrs. Eberhardt kept an exceptionally neat house. Her brow furrowed at the thought of glass beakers bubbling with potent chemicals. "Is it safe?" she asked. "Oh, we always wear rubber gloves," Beatrice said reassuringly, "and eye goggles, too." It was obvious to Roy that Beatrice was experienced at fibbing to grownups. Mrs. Eberhardt fell for the whole yam.

Page # 113

“Officer Delinko steered his car to the curb. He rolled down the window and called out across the intersection, "Hey, young man!" The boy waved and moved closer to the edge of the road. Officer Delinko noticed that he was walking a bicycle, and that the rear tire appeared to be flat. "Is your name Roy?" the policeman asked. "That's me." "How about if I give you a lift?" The kid crossed the street with his bike, which fit easily inside the spacious trunk of the Crown Victoria. Officer Delinko radioed the dispatcher to report that he'd located the missing youth and that everything was fine.”

Page # 79

"Tex?" she said, arching an eyebrow. Roy felt his face redden. "I'm really sorry." "This is a hospital. This is no place for games." "I know it's not. I apologize." "If you're the real Roy," the doctor said, "then who was that young man in the bed, and where did he go? I want the truth." Roy stared at the tops of his sneakers. He couldn't remember another day in his life when so many things had gone so wrong. "Son," his father said, "answer the doctor." His mother squeezed his arm. "Come on, honey. It's important." "You can be sure we'll find him," Officer Delinko chimed in, "sooner or later."

Page # 152

She had left Dana Matherson stripped down to his underpants and trussed to the flagpole in front of the administration building at Trace Middle School. There, Beatrice had "borrowed" a bicycle, forcefully installed Roy on the handlebars, and was now churning at a manic pace toward an unknown destination. Roy wondered if this was a kidnapping, in the legal sense of the term. Surely there must be a law against one kid snatching another kid from school property.”

Page # 111

But it wouldn’t prove a darn thing,” Roy said. “Next time you have a problem, just tell me, and then we'll sit down and talk about it like civilized human beings. Okay?” “Civilized,” Beatrice repeated, gazing at Roy over the rims of her glasses, where his eyes flickered to her hand, which was now dripping fat flops of barbecue sauce. Soggy chunks of meat were visible between clenched fingers. She had squeezed the sandwich so ferociously that it had disintegrated.

Page #45

Roy is caring because when he met Mullet Fingers, he bought him some shoes, showing his kindness. On page 73, Beatrice says, “ For the last time, what is in the shoe box?” and Roy replies, “ The shoes aren’t for me, they’re for this kid I met.” That’s why he is caring.

His head really hurt but he didn't want anyone to know. Nonchalantly he picked his comic book off the floor and placed it on his lap.Hit me," said Roy. "What?" "Go ahead. Get it out of your system." "You're a nut cathe, Eberhardt." "And you're as dumb as a bucket of mud, Matherson." That one did the trick. Dana lunged across the seat and whacked Roy on the side of the head. After straightening himself, Roy said, "There. Feel better now?" "Damn right I do!" Dana exclaimed. "Good." Roy turned around and opened his comic book.

“He got flat on his belly and instructed Roy to hold his ankles. With Roy anchoring his feet, the boy scooted himself over the rim on the pilothouse until his wiry upper torso was suspended over the creek. ‘Don’t let go!’ He yelled, stretching his tan arms outward until his fingertips touched the water… ‘Here they come! Get ready!’ ‘I’ve gotcha.’ Roy managed to hang on as he felt the boy lunge. He heard a grunt, a splash, then a triumphant ‘Whooo-hoooo!!!’... ‘Take a peek,’ He told Roy. The boy was holding a bright blunt-headed fish that sparkled like liquid chrome. How he had snatched such a slippery little ghost from the water with only his bare hands, Roy didn’t know.”

Page # 178

After roy saw the mysterious running boy he was confused “why doesn't he have shoes on, why is he running.” these thoughts ran through his mind like little track stars as the boy ran roy jumped off the bus and chased him but he hit with a golf ball and he fell on the ground, knocked out as he woke up he was in the nurse’s office he was still thinking about the running boy as the nurse was talking about “ don’t do that again and bla bla bla “ that's all he could hear as he got up his head started hurting as he looked at his reflection he saw the bump on his head he was shocked “ why didn’t she tell me this happened to my head” he was mad that she didn’t warn him about what happened to his head, he was about to walk out until the nurse said “ the principal wants to see you” roy was stopped he knew he was in trouble for running off the bus, so as he walked to the principal’s office he saw the running boy again but he was too far so he started walking again when he made it to the principal’s office the principal was waiting for him to come as he walked inside he was scared thinking about what will happen to him after this. When he walked in the principal was confused they asked “ why did you get off the bus and run away” they were confused was roy scared of something? Roy was trapped he didn’t know what to do he didn’t want to lie but he had to so he lied “ I was running because I thought I could get to school faster because we were close” and they believed it! Roy was lucky that they believed it he would have been in real trouble if they knew what happened with the running boy in reality he was chasing the boy and got knocked out.
