Achebe wrote this article because he is trying to show the image that Africa is portrayed through different different authors. But at the same time comparing the two through the ways of their language in text. Doing so Achebe exposes both authors Conrad and Marlow for their faults at using racist and bias vocabulary in both their books and their follow up to the books later.

Artist's should not be held to a higher standard in order to appease all of their viewers. Artistic liberty allows for the creator to produce whatever message they value without censorship. Therefore, they have no predisposed responsibilities when it comes to portraying society in a certain light. Every human views society differently from their own perspective and every artist has the write to convey this perspective.

-¨´the other world,´ the atithesis of Europe and therefore of civilization , a place where man's vaunted intelligence and refinement are finally mocked by triumphant bestiality" (Achebe 338).

-"We were wanderers on a prehistoric earth, on an earth that wore the aspect of an unknown planet...But suddenly as we struggled round a bend there would be a glimpse of rushed walls, of peaked grass-roofs, a burst of yells, a whirl of black limbs..." (Conrad).
This explains how Conrad views Africa in a way that seems like that of caos.

The Natives of Conrad were treated like senseless "black" bodies. Conrad's natives received treatment that can be referred to as dehumanizing. While the Native of Achebe were treated with sensible amounts of admiration and members of faith.
