It is different in the fact that alot of the time the family of the boy asks the family of the girl for the blessing of the father in order to marry. With Roman Weddings the bride typically does not wear white but the color of the family.

A Roman wedding was similar yet different in the things the bride wore. Ancient brides wore orange/red veils, however, the modern bridal veils are long and colored white. Also, Roman bridal gowns were very long. In Rome, it was disrespectful for the bride to show any skin at all. In the modern world, it is quite the opposite and showing skin is sometimes a sign of beauty. Also, the parents had more power in deciding who the bride would marry. In contrast, nowadays, brides usually decide their own grooms.

Roman weddings were similar to modern weddings in the fact that the bride still wore white and a there was a large feast with a parade. They were different in the fact that Romans being married had no legal effect and that it was just a person agreement sealed with a kiss at the wedding. Modern weddings do have a legal effect. Romans also shouted "Talassio!" after the wedding which we don't know the meaning of and we don't say it anymore. A similarity was that in the wedding Caecilia said "Ubi tu Gaiaus, ego Gaia," which is similar to the saying today.

Roman weddings and modern weddings are very similar in which, rings were a symbol of love back then and even now. One difference between the weddings now than back then is that, there had to be at least 10 witnesses at a Roman wedding. However, in modern weddings, some people choose to elope and the only "witness" that is present is the priest

Roman weddings were both similar and different to modern western weddings. In ancient Rome, the bride would wear a dress and a veil like today, but their dresses would not show skin because that is thought to be disrespectful. The veil was also different, because it was the color of fire unlike today's white. The bride would also wear a belt tied with the "knot of Hercules" which was thought to indicate that Hercules would protect the marriage.

Roman weddings have influenced customs that are still carried on today. The bride wore white, she didn't show her face to the groom before the wedding, and rings symbolized their love; aside from these similarities Roman wedding were quite different from current weddings. Roman weddings were usually held in the grooms house while most wedding now days are held in churches, outdoors, or other desirable locations. Besides the difference in scenery, Roman weddings tended to be more of a business transaction then the joining of two people who loved each other.
The parents were the one's who said I do and not the people getting married. Also the wife was given fire and water which we do not do today.

Roman weddings were similar to modern weddings in which rings symbolized love and vows were said. The bride also spent the day with only female friends, and the groom was not allowed to see the her. However they were different from modern weddings because the bride was accompanied by one person (a matron) while today, brides have multiple bridesmaids that are with her all day. In addition, instead of both the bride and groom saying vows, the bride would say, "Ubi tu Gaius, ego Gaia".

Roman weddings don't differ from modern western weddings as much as one may think. Similarly, a Roman bride still wore a veil (w fire-like colors) and the bride still received help from her girlfriends. However, today, our western equivalent to Rome's matron is a priest. In addition, the Romans throw a big procession in accordance to the wedding.

Roman weddings were very symbolic and spiritual events just as weddings are now. Some of the specific rituals differ though. The night before her wedding, an ancient Roman bride would dedicate her childhood clothes and toys to her family's Lares. Other traditions were similar, such as the bride wearing a veil and flower crown and an exchange of gifts, often rings, between the bride and groom. One Roman wedding tradition that is found in some but not all cultures today was the dowry: a price paid by the family of the bride to the family of the groom to cover the costs of taking the bride into her husband's home.
Another uniquely Roman wedding tradition was the induction of the wife into the husband's family by sacrificing to the husband's family's Lares.

Roman weddings contained many similarities and differences from modern ones. Both modern and Roman weddings contain a sharing of "vows", with them being verbal completion of the marriage. Modern and roman marriage are both riddled with superstitions. Roman weddings however, contain a dowry that the family of the bride must pay to cover general living expenses, whereas modern weddings don't do that. Also, the exchange of water and fire (a common ceremony in Rome) is not one that modern marriages use for ceremonies. Roman weddings also contained a large procession following the meal, which is not common in modern weddings.

Unlike today's custom of the brides wearing white, the brides of the Roman times often wore flame colored bridal veils. They would be a red or orange color. The custom of carrying the bride over the threshold has continued to carry on today. If the bride tripped on the door, it was considered a bad omen. Another custom in Roman times that was very different, was that brides were given much less choice. Her father was the one that decided who she would marry. However, a custom still used in today's weddings is the custom of fathers giving their daughters to the groom.

Also in both times the couple gets married by a priest. Then they have refreshments afterwards, which is also what we do today. Caecilia says something similar to vows when she is at the alter.
