Essential Question and Theme

What are the qualities of a good leader?

Some good qualities of a leader are responsible for their actions, they are caring, and take action when there is some kind of crisis or take action right away in any situation. They need to act right and be the buffer. They seem to be always right in how they choose their actions.

This relates to the theme of leadership. One example of this in chapter 1 when Ralph blew into the conch shell, “Ralph grasped the idea and hit the shell with air from his diaphragm. Immediately the thing sounded. A deep, harsh note boomed under the palms, spread through the intricacies of the forest and echoed back from the pink granite of the mountain” (Golding 6). Another example of this in chapter 4 when Jack killed a pig for food. “ ‘Look! We’ve killed a pig—we stole up on them—we got in a circle—” Voices broke in from the hunters. “We got in a circle—” “We crept up—” “The pig squealed—’” (Golding 4).

Compare/Contrast LOTF with topic of your choice

Topic you will be comparing to LOTF: The Purge series.
Lord of the Flies is to The Purge because they share the same theme Civilization vs Savagery. The reason this for this is because in The Lord of Flies the boy loses civilization during the book. While in The Purge they stop civilization for 1 entire night and become absolute savages. It is similar because of the Dark Side of Human Nature of killing innocent people. However, it is different because of The book Lord of the Flies being all young kids which are all boys, in the movie The Purge there is not limit age range. Another difference is that Lord of Flies is all on an island while The Purge is in big cities and neighborhood.

Who is to blame?

Character Roger and Jack.
Jack is the reason Simon died. For Piggy, it was all Roger doing. Jack and Roger are the ones to blame for the death of Piggy and Simon. In the scene when Piggy was trying to talk sense to the other boys, Roger rolled a big rock on to Piggy’s head which ended up killing him (LOTF Movie). This shows that Roger had actually the reason for wanting to kill Piggy. He didn’t just accidentally do. He did this on purpose.

What should the punishment be?

When it comes to juveniles committing serious crimes, they should be punished like adults would be punished. They should be punished for every crime they commit no matter how bad it is. “In all 50 states, youth under age 18 can be tried in adult criminal court through various types of juvenile transfer laws” (Human Impact Partners). This evidence shows that all 50 states, children can be tried like adults. This is a good punishment of juveniles because if they commit a crime as harsh as murder they should be put up for trial as an adult would. Other reasons this is good is because of no matter what age if you commit a crime, you should be heavily punished as if you ever an adult committing the same crime.
