It's one of the most important desserts in Lithuanian celebrations, especially at weddings or other special occasions such as Christmas. Its name means "branched tree" or "tree with many branches" due to its distinctive shape (it is often conical, like a pine tree, and with the drips as branches). It is baked in a time- and labor-intensive process, by painting layers of dough onto a rotating spit in a special open oven or over an open fire.
Loreta

Marija – Apple cheese (Obuolių sūris)

It is an original dessert from an old particular variety of apples (Antonovka), rich in pectin. The apple lobules with the sugar are cooking over a low flame for a long time. At the end of this process spices(gloves, cinamon, ginger) are added. It is called “cheese” probably because it is hung to dry in a cotton sack that is also used to make cheese. This sweet cheese is known since 17th century as a dessert of noble class.

Kate and I have chosen a few diverse items! We chose simple snacks that are eaten every day across the country. Walkers crisps are manufactured in Leicester. We chose Bombay mix to represent the diversity of the city that we live in as it is multi-cultural. You would see these snacks side by side on a buffet table! We also chose scones with jam and cream, accompanied by tea as this is a traditional afternoon tea indulgence in England.
