Hi welcome to my websites! My name is Nurul Shatirah bt Abd Manab. Currently in Semester 4 in Bachelor of Education in Biology with Honor at Sultan Idris Educational University. Here are my reflection writing based on my experience learning, experimenting and visiting which are related to Animal Physiology. I would like to thanks to my beloved lecturers, Prof Madya Dr Syakirah Binti Samsudin and Dr Norliana Binti Mohd Rosli for being such an amazing teacher ever. Mere words could never express my gratitude for both of you for truly passionate while teaching us. Thank you for the memories during Animal Physiology's lesson that I will carry throughout my life's journey and treasure the most!

PBL REFLECTION

The implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in classroom is one of an exciting and interactive way for me during the Animal Physiology’s lesson conducted. This pedagogical approach and curriculum design methodology approach contain several components that make it unique such as a question that guides an investigation, hands-on learning experiences, and a solution to the question in the form of a presentation. Instead of just memorizing the facts, PBL help me a lot in learning hand-on way, solving authentic biological case problems, stimulating discussion with group members and reinforcing learning. Other than that, PBL also improve and develop my critical thinking and creative skill by learning how to transfer or apply my knowledge to new situation given. As a learning model, PBL also increasing my motivation and passion in learning this challenges subject. It’s required me to use high-level thinking skills, which is analyze, create, defend, or evaluate the situation given.

However, there also some challenges that I faced during PBL implementation which is I little bit confuse on what should be doing for given task in first place because I have not enough prior experience and knowledge. For that particular aspect, I will make sure to do some improvement for my knowledge and critical thinking by reading a lot of useful resources such as book and journal in future. Rather than that, I’m so grateful because my lecturer, Dr Syakirah always encourages me by guiding and supporting throughout the lesson conducted. She act as perfectly facilitator during the class to make sure that everyone know how to solves and demonstrate the real solution for given task. As facilitator, Dr always encouraging us by asking a lot of challenges questions rather than directly give the answer for the solutions. By doing that, brainstorm process can occur naturally that lead or contribute to finding solution. All learning experiences with PBL begin with an essential question. This question is one that doesn't have a right answer and needs deep understanding of content to be answered. Although learning during PBL is self-directed, meaning students are responsible for finding a solution to the problem, Dr always be a supporter and big helper for us to solve task given.

In order to find and present the finding solution well, we were working in cooperative group which divided into five person per group. My group member are Ayuni Nadrah, Mildred Paula, Siti Balqish and Noor Adibah. They were such a great members regarding to their commitment contribution toward group delegation of work. We always do the brainstorming together, discussing, and supporting other’s thought and idea on what is the best for solution for given task. We find this PBL approach and experiences more engaging, motivating, and fun. We felt very satisfied for our end finding-solution presentation during last class. Everyone is doing great work together. Lastly, my improvement of knowledge and critical thinking skill getting a lot of better from time to time. Thank you.

On 25 November 2018, Animal Physiology’s student managed to run an educational field-trip to National Elephant Conservation Centre, Kuala Gandah, Pahang which is takes about 2 hour and 30 minutes from Tanjung Malim, Perak. This fieldtrip is mainly purpose to observe the relation between of elephant’s physiology behaviour toward the environment adaptation. National Elephant Conservation Centre was established in 1989 by the Malaysian Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN), and forms a base for the Elephant Relocation Team, which since 1974 has been rescuing problem Asian elephants whose habitats are being lost to cultivation or development and relocating them to suitable habitats such as Taman Negara. The Centre also aims to raise public awareness and support research, and has increasingly become a popular tourist attraction since its existence began to be publicised in 1997. We were given chances to feed, touch elephant trunks, take photograph with elephant and watched a documentary shows translocation of wild elephants to their new habitat by PERHILITAN.
