Tier 1 Training in the Spring: more knowledge on PBIS and how to sustain it within the building. Before testing window and spring breaks.

Open Thoughts about PBIS (journey, celebrations, improvements):

No current program; used to have house points in middle school-think worked pretty well; some grade levels worked well with, others did not. Started out strong, dropped off; some kids earning rewards when they shouldn't have-got tiers of different types of rewards.

Roll out not done correctly in the past so the previous implementation got thrown out;

Trends from today: more consistency across the board; more balance between awarding positive behaviors and putting accountability on negative behaviors is needed-needs fall under PBIS and is doable within this program.

Previous expectations: start fresh or build off of | found previous expectations from 2018

Discussion: Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Responsible.... Share with staff and get feedback on previous expectations and what is still applicable and what needs added and changed/ what we did before with posters/expectations was correct and shared appropriately. Needs updated. Issue is how do we teach that and reinforce it with kids.

Behavior Data Collection: Use Educator's Handbook; export a lot of different files; lots of ways to access it; used by all staff

Top 3 Behaviors: (formal and informal)-

disruptions/safety concerns/habitual violations/citizenship card write ups

How are teachers doing things in their classrooms: overall a good job between what's a teacher handled behavior and a write up/admin issue; some grade levels are higher, but usually due to the class itself; most teachers are good at handling things in the classroom; both admin handles a lot of behaviors, not just one. Need a break down of steps/progression on how to handle behaviors that continue; consistency between classrooms is not there all the time and that flow between middle and elementary is different but can be the same and flexible.

How do the counselors fit in or how could they? Deals with mostly student referrals, not usually for behaviors but a lot of times there's other issues. On occasion he gets brought a student to discuss behaviors; mentoring program is our default so that the counselors are not getting overwhelmed. Need to determine when counselor is better than a mentor versus needing both or something different.

We will assess resources in staff/programs/etc. and see how we can scaffold this for efficiency. Putting everything together versus "silos" where only one person is in charge of this, that, etc.

Are we seeing consistency among behaviors with certain kids? Yes-some tier 2/tier 3 behaviors. Need to work on those supports, but not really doing our best with it at the moment.

Goal is to give the same message of PBIS to the entire staff and not forgetting tier 2/3 kids, just have to build the foundation first with tier 1 and knowing what it is.

Will send an agenda prior to the next meeting to prep beforehand; recruit some more people on the team to cover a variety of grades/specials, etc.
