It also describes the effect of other biotic and abiotic factors on the succession of salt marshes in New England.
The main points to take from this article are that plant species in salt marshes each have different levels of dominance, and that if conditions are more favourable for the subordinant species, these will be able to out compete the 'dominant' species. The natural tides and solar radiation effect the salinity of salt marsh patches which leads to different species dominance.
