I am also an inaugural member of AKU Teachers' Academy & one of the facilitator in TLEW.
I think, my teaching style is like mountain hiking. I believe in the fact that my learner has some baseline knowledge about the subject. They may fall or rise at various points during the learning cycle. I provide them with opportunities of deliberate practice and feedback, which facilitate my learners to reach to the target and make this learning experience as adventurous as mountain hiking. :-)
Round rule: Be a good listener.
I welcome you all and wish you a unique and effective learning experience @TLEW 2022.
Thanks

Hello everyone. My name is Jane Rarieya and one of your facilitators. I am looking forward to TLEW and I hope the same is with you. The picture that best captures my teaching approach is the one depicting hiking. This is because as a teacher I can lead the hike from behind after I have shared directions about where we are going. I can lead from the back especially when I am confident that my 'co-hikers' (learners) are confident of where they are going. I can also lead from the back to encourage them and keep them going. Sometimes, I lead from the front when role modelling or my learners are not too sure about which direction they should take. The vast expanse of landscape before us is our teaching and learning canvas on which we experiment using different teaching & learning strategies until we are satisfied that everything is well understood. Then we bring our hike to a close and pitch tent.
One rule I would suggest is that we should be punctual for all sessions.

Good morning to everyone. I am Lydia A. Mbabazi a midwifery instructor from Uganda. I am grateful that I am part of this TLEW class this season. I look at teaching as a compass. The compass helps us to know the direction that we are taking or the direction in which we may find a particular place or location. The compass may however never move to that location. As a teacher I believe I should always be prepared to direct my learners to where they are going or intending to go. Whether I have been there or not.

I am delighted to be facilitating this online TLEW course of QTL_net at AKU. It is one of the most rewarding courses I have experienced both as a participant (in Canada) and as a facilitator (in London, East Africa and Pakistan). I know from past evaluations you will enjoy a similar experience if you are able to fully immerse yourself in the course and plan your BOPPPS mini-lessons before you teach. As Vice Provost I have a global role at AKU, sitting in Kenya but spending a lot of time in Karachi where I lived from 1996-2001 as a faculty at IED. My family is from Uganda, but I was born in the UK. I'm married to a Canadian and my son was born in Pakistan and we currently live in Kenya. So I'm never sure how to answer the question where I am from?! I have the privilege to work with, support and learn from faculty from all disciplines. That's why I chose the picture of the football game as I believe teaching is a contact sport and the best outcome is when you have a strategy for the game (lesson plan aligned to learning outcomes) but work with the team (fellow faculty; students) to reach the goal (deep learning)...and have fun along the way! I look forward to having fun with you all on the TLEW course. Be prepared to play!

Hello everyone,

I am Loveluck Mwasha a senior instructor and faculty member of the AKU-SONAM Tanzania Campus. Post-RN-BScN Programme. My area of interest is teaching midwifery and child health nursing courses among others. I am also, a TLEW facilitator.

In my teaching experience, I feel that my approach to teaching and learning resonates well with the theme garden. As gardener attention, and nurturing are needed for the seedlings to thrive and grow to full maturity. Likewise, students need guidance and support, and encouragement to bring out the best, discover and grow to their fullest potential. In the process, I also, learn and adjust to address the learner's unique learning needs and advancements in the technology.

I am looking forward to working and learning with you all.

Hello dear team TLEW!
I am GunturuRevathi, a clinical microbiologist and faculty of the Dept. of Pathology in the AKUH, Nairobi. Over several years, I taught microbiology to various caders of health care workers ranging from lab technicians to post-graduate medical students of various specialties. I consider my role to be similar to that of a forest guide. This is because many students find microbiology quite difficult. My teaching style can be called a friendly facilitator and collaborator who inspires the students to learn more.
I have always been learning from my students who enrich my professional experience every single day
I firmly believe that the teaching style of a faculty member must remain dynamic and flexible in order to be able to match the learning style of each student. Every student is unique and provides unique insights and challenges in real-life situations of teaching and learning. It is also very important to be empathetic to the needs of the learner and establish a close connection that can win the confidence of the student. This connection enhances and fulfills the teaching and learning experience for me and my students
